Hi everyone, bit cheesed of at the mo, gave the old girl a good wash yesterday an whilst cleaning the roof noticed some lacquer peel by the edge of the sunroof, it is about the size of a tennis ball, question is can it just be a local repair or do I have to get the whole roof redone. Any body got any idea how much this repair would cost.
Many thanks
Paul.

A good paint shop should be able to do a localised repair and blend it in. on the roof it should not be noticable.

Had ours done by a local body shop, leading edge of the roof and one side of the bonnet o_O
took 2 days ...
If you do some prep it could save some money too ...

That would be the clear coats. A good body/paint shop would have to sand and the buff it out, respray the clear coat, the wet sand and rebuff. few hundred quid for the fix. UV,and grim are the cause. occasional waxing would prevent that or slow down the process of the clear coat lifting. How old is the car and what color

hi, I used a product about 5 yrs ago on a bonnet which had the laquer scratched although not too deep ,but looked a mess !!! our local spares shop recommended it saying its not cheap " £20.. for a very small bottle of like milky lotion and very small bottle of cream ,,,well the results was outstanding the scratches actually disappeared as you used it ,,,I was over the moon ,,,but for the life of me cant recall what it was called ,,,,I know it was only a small name something like " kriks ??? ticks ????/ im sure someone on here will know !!! its brilliant stuff ,,,if I can remember name will send message ,,,sorry cant recall """ dementia etcc !!!!! regards mozz think I used cream first then milk ,,,

Thanks for replys gents, it is Oxford blue in colour, MY 2000, going to have to take her to a body shop to see how much they are going to charge.

Oh well , I suppose we all wasted our ideas on that one !!!!!! his mind was made up anyway , why ask for ideas ?????? maybe southern logic eh ...regards mozz

They should be able to cut it back, blend the edge and reapply. It's not a hugely noticeable area so would get away with a not so perfect job.

I'd say about a ton, 150 tops.

The Quikks stuff would probably just be a rubbing compound followed by a polishing compound or possibly ultra fine wet and dry like 2000 or 4000 grit but no good if the lacquer has already gone.
A localised repair should be ok as long as the lacquer can be taken back to a point where the solvent wont lift it when they try and apply a primer or bar coat. i use a 2 pack filler primer as when it goes off it seals the area as some primers, or if you just try and apply the base coat that is 50 % thinners, it will just pickle up the edge of the old lacquer and look ****e, then its just a case of compounding the whole area, wet flat the primer, re apply a base coat to blend into the area and then re apply lacquer back over to blend in with the compounded area and they can use a fade out thinners to blend the old and new lacquer.
Then when the 2 pack lacquer has properly cured they can compound and polish the whole area if required.
Alan / Mozz - get a room !! :D
