Hi All,

Mine is a L322 4.4 V8 Vogue from 2004. I absolutely love the thing, but after 3 years and 60k miles (its on 150k in total) it's starting to bring up some electrical gremlins.

None are terminal (at this stage), but one is particularly annoying...

This all started when I changed a coil 2 years ago. It's a pretty simple operation as everyone knows, and I was sure to disconnect the battery etc.

Anyway, on recommission the car developed an annoying issue of if I put the key in, turned to ignition, removed the key, reinserted, turned to ignition the following happens:

1. The Temperature reading would swap from Celsius to Fahrenheit (and Fahrenheit to Celsius the next time). I'm getting the hang of Fahrenheit as a result, but it's really really annoying.

2. It would reset its trip computer. I am also unable to reset the trip by pressing the stalk (ie, I press it and it does nothing). It's not good for my OCD nature of recording how far I get on each LPG tank.

So far I have replaced the battery and run a plug in diagnostic (Icarsoft I930) but other than a MAF issue and various other codes as a result of the previous weak battery, I can't see an issue.

I'm not scared to throw money at a new ECU if that's what it needs, but I just want it to work!

Help me! Please!

Will

I had this on my 2003, it corrected itself once the weather warmed up a bit, I put it down to damp in the internals causing a bit of bother!

Well i say that's strange, i find damp internals a boon to be honest. :D:D

I don't have an answer but, maybe, if you kept the issue in one thread, so the gurus can get a true idea of what's been happening and for how long, they might have a better chance of helping you.

I take your point, but thought it better to start again after a year or so since the last posts.

To the matter at hand, it isn't battery related. The damp is an interesting thought as my amplifier played up a few weeks back, but the temp unit issue predates that by a year or so.

Is there a specific place on the internal menu that I might be able to give it a kick up the arse?

In other news, my rocker covers are leaking oil onto my exhausts... I have the seals, but it's another job to do..

No worries. Only reason I mentioned it, is because they may not be damp weather related electrickery issues, as has happened all year through. Although I guess with our summers, damp may still be an issue :D

It's certainly a strange one. I have had the rear side panel out of the boot in order to prevent the amplifier not going funny again.

I assume that the trip computer / temp is almost solely in the front of the car - part of me thinks it might be the central sat nav system (which is the dominant source, the Sat Nav computer unit or the Dashboard?)

No idea, it's above my pay grade. All I do know is that since I had battery issues, my analogue clock resets most but not every time I start the engine. I have just put it down to one of her little foibles

Mine does too, though I've had 4 weeks without it doing it. There must be a way of fixing these things...

Mine has also recently had an issue where the radio turns off, dash lights all light up, radio turns back on, everything is back to normal.

All very frustrating..

I find any time I fix the little things something big comes along to bite me on the bum. I would swear they do it deliberately. It's almost as if they don't want you to fix the little issues and throw a major wobbly to tell you. Almost like they want a little something to niggle at you. So self- resetting clock stays. At least until I decide to risk replacing the sat nav VDU, because I just know she will really kick off if I fix that.
