Thought I would resurrect an old thread here. I recently fitted some led sidelight lamps to my facelift FL1 but it would seem that the heat emitted by the headlight bulbs has affected them quite quickly. The leds on the bottom side of the lamps have all failed. They were pretty cheap mind so I'm not too fussed. I loved the look of them though so I was wondering if anyone has fitted any (relatively) recently and can recommend some that can cope with the temperature inside the headlight and thus last more than a couple of weeks?

I've tried many different types of LEDs and all suffer the same. I measured the temperature at the side light, at over 200°C. So it's no wonder why LEDs fail quite quickly. LEDs will also now fail the MOT, which is a pain.

Saved me a few quid there Nodge, I'd been looking at LED side lamp bulbs. Never used them in my bikes, my Triumph Tiger and Suzuki TL1000R both have twin headlamps I might have wired so both headlamps are lit dipped, I just run a normal bulb in one side and a yellow in the other, soon gets you noticed.

I haven't driven my face lift in the dark yet, I've seen a variety of xenon, HID, super bright and so on bulbs - are there any recommended or just stick to what is in there? I know HID are illegal unless self levelling and my son is trying to get me to put a an LED light bar on the FL (his 110 has a huge one on the roof that turns night into day) but I'm sure I read that they are illegal for road use as well.

Higher brightness H7 Nightbreakers from Osram are good.

I believe LED light bars are ok, providing they only come on with main beams or use a separate switch.
