i just had to pick some friends up from the airport and i was so engrossed in catching up with them i failed to realise the handbrake was on, probably about 2 rungs from the top. i noticed the acceleration was a bit sluggish but put this down to having 6 passengers and luggage in the car, before finally realising whilst i was doing about 60 on the motorway. its a 300 tdi by the way. you dont have to tell me im an idiot but will i have caused any permanent damage? cheers in advance.

you've probably got nicely polished pads now - find a very steep hill to test it on and if it works it works - if it doesnt just replace the pads

The handbrake operates a pair of brake shoes in a drum.
Should be ok.
A bit of emery paper carefully applied will remove glaze, depends on lining thickness.Or try adjusting bolt on back of drum, make sure wheels can still rotate...
