What are your thoughts on a 2004 4.4 V8 Vogue.
No turbo, no timing belts, no diesel nonsense.
91K ( just run in) pretty good service history, 11 months MOT. Looks original, no Halfords bit stuck on here and there. looks as sexy as Samantha Beckinsale in wellies!

If that is the BMW lump I'd walk on by. If it is the Jag engine then go and buy.

When I was looking for mine, the BMW ones were well in budget and I drove a few of them.
I then settled for a Tatty example with the jag engine.
Different animal altogether.
I did drive an s/c as well, and yes it was quicker but not enough to justify the extra cost. The 4.4 Ajv8 is sublime.
On the long run through Germany to Czech Republic, I get around 23mpg which isn't that much worse per mile than a diesel in terms of cost at UK prices.
Not nice in Europe where diesel is often significantly cheaper than petrol.
On lpg, the cost per mile is about the same as diesel but with oodles more smiles

As for thread title ....
You seem too LZ fluent for a newb o_O

Who are you really?
What Me!
I have spent many hours dragging through Autotrader, Ebay and god knows where else looking for my next automotive dream or nightmare. I have been referring to your site for a while now, especially when I think I have something fairly decent for inspiration and advice. I have joined LZ because generally you seem to know what the hell you are talking about, are not a load of testicularly challenged acne farmers who want to Nox up a 1.2 Vauxhal Nova or make their ears bleed with banging sounds innit!
I am not fishing whatever that is. I am a chap what is going to buy a Range Rover and you is the very fellows what is ( hopefully) going to put him behind the wheel of said Range Rover.
" I am what I am, I am my own special creation." Oh god I'm quoting show tunes, time to lie down for a while.

I will be honest and say I am quite lustful over a couple of L322 4.4 V8 HSE., 2003 104K or 2004 91K. BUT I am still worried about the dread cylinder liners. I think I am going to probably prioritise petrol over diesel because of my terror and past experience with turbos, DPF etc.But how much of a problem are the cylinder liners.

Cylinder liners shouldn't be a problem on the later BMW petrol. (or the jag for that matter)
If you want a project car my late 2005 4.4 will be for sale very cheap once I have a delivery date for my new car. It will need work doing but it's just taken me to Aberdeen and back in the last 2 days.
I won't sell it to someone who can't spanner themselves though as I know it is the sort of car that a garage will rape you for.
