reet back by popular demand i did carry on with the landy and thought id take advantage of the fine weather we had today so i decided to throw some colour on the tub







as i had shot the silver on the trimmings last night i thought it better to peel the masking tape off while the blue top coat hadnt fully cured yet as i was scared more than anything that i wouldnt be able to peel it off later and the results surprised even meself i was posessed like a kidd on christmas day











ive still not dropped the tub down propperly yet and the carpet really helped with lifting the tub back on on me jack jones as it stopped the rear crossmember tabs catching the tub supports and scratching the feck out of the underside :D:D:D:D:D
 
i cant wait meself really mate thats why im working at this pace on it i think im also gonna go full tilt with the front while im at it such as engine out clean and paint that aswell so me enjun bay looks pristine aswell :D:D:D
 
just a question of opinion do i repaint the engine block the original duck egg blue does it matter really coz i really feel the need to get a bit of contrast going with bright red or something with silver rocker cover and black radiator n starter motor probably mint the fuel distribution pump back to silver aswell

what would you do ??
 
personally id paint block duck egg blue ,head,timing case,filter case etc black ali parts silver

that was me other idea but looking at the blue thats gonna be on the bulkhead against the duck egg blue test card ive got it just seems to look bland and uninteresting :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

just thought a mad contrast of a red engine block would break up all the blue thats going on it :rolleyes::rolleyes:

and for some strange reason its got remenance of red and yellow paint on the cylinder head i just cant understand what kind of history that engine has had :confused::confused::confused:
 
I would paint the engine black as it wont show the oil leaks so much. Sorry if I am stating the obvious but you will need special heat resistant paint. Good job by the way, keep it up.
 
speaking of paint i cant believe how well this acryllic polymer paint is going on as the last time i used the compressor for a respray was with cellulose about 8 years ago its as if paints are now nearley as good as the old lead based paints were
 
Aye, its nice and doesnt seem to run. Is that the PR15 you mentioned before?

pr15 black on the chassis over red oxide triple acrylic primer 2 coats of each with a good half day drying time between coats fer good measure as i dont want to end up under the bugger with the welder next year :D:D
 
the blue paint is some new double acrylic polymer based stuff with some special dedicated thinner for it that seems to have twice the thinning power of standard thinners

and the primer is basicaly the same stuff but its some kind of all in one primer have to spoon it out of the tin then thin it out to whatever you want it for like high build or just normal with a built in rust inhibitor and etching agent its bloody magic so simple even a thicko like me can do it :D:D:D:D:D

Is there any way you can just clean it back to the cast and leave it as is?
Just my opinion that a machine is a machine and paint goes on the panels :D

well the engine is caked in black grease cow**** and all other manner of farm shyte and since ive got to remove the engine to do the inside of the front rails properly and get the bulkhead off to sort that out i just think it would be a crying shame to put all this effort into the engine bay thats getting sprayed to match the rest of it nice and clean then put a filthy rusty engine back in its just far easier to sort it out astheticaly while its out :D:D:D

cheers for the constructive opinion as i too see it as just an engine wich the engineer in me tells me to leave it alone and have it as it is but the boy racer in me says lets ave it lookin shiny and neat showing these kids that theyre not doing anything new and older cars can look just as good :cool::cool::cool:

and as ive spent the better part of the last decade looking for me old series 3 petrol to no evail im putting a hell of a lot of pride into this one as im back to square 1 again ;);)
