not got anything much to report as far as work on the landy goes but i did have a good day while flagging me mates drive today he came out of the house with a box and said have a look at this lot see what yer reccon i had a gander noting that evrything in there is imperial and whitworth and a damn good selection then when i asked whose they are he replied with

dont look at me theyre not mine anymore theyre yours





so in return i worked extra hard and finished his driveway in the 1 day

got an exhaust wants welding up tomorow and a visit to the midwife with me missus then probably the afternoon on the landy i hope :D:D:D:D
 
the fekkin box weighs a tonne and the ball joint splitter couldnt have come at a better time ( gonna need it when i start on the front axle and believe it or not the rivveter works like a new un and thats the first time ive ever owned a chain oil filter remover not to mention a torq wrench

buzzin me tits orff with this :D:D:D

not to mention while doing the driveway ive pulled 2 car jobs and some brickwork from passers by admiring what goes on in my mates garden n garage

i really need to get out more.....errr stay in more and work on the landy :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
 
rrreeeeett a bit more progress starting with a bit more stripping as i found yet more tinworm just infront of the rear hangers so evrything has had to come off the bugger now and im just gonna go balistic with the welder son as i get chance



now a little before and after bizniss when i got her i noticed the rear diff pan was pitted to death and 5 pin holes in it and thought well its knackered anyway i might aswell try some reclaim welding on it before i fork out fer a new diff pan and heres the progress with that



after a couple of hours welding frigging about with welder settings grinding sanding smoothing flatting cutting and tw@tting with me favourite hammer and dolly i came up with this



and while i have been waiting for paint to dry or wd40 to do its magic or things to cool down i thought id get a bit risky and put some petrol in the parraffin gun on the airline and aim the fekker at the gearbox just to see how it would do with the inch thick of cow**** grease and oil its caked in and im devastated to find that

she once had an overdrive wich has been pillaged and the inspection covers and plates have been half arsed replaced and god only knows now whats gone on in that box



and now for me evenings activities ( me missus will kill me when she finds out ) while shes been out in the evenings visiting her mum n dads and sister ive brought the wiring loom in and been sorting through the bugger by an inch by inch inspection repair and replace anything melted or bodged together unwound all the grotty tape and twine then rewrapped with pvc insulation tape and ended up with this







i dont know why i was ****ting meself with the wiring its not as hard as i thought and with the wiring diagrams i wa given i even took time to label and mark what goes where and does what ready for ease of fettling when it goes back in
 
johnny, do you use straight co with your mig or co/argon mix??

straight co2 or pub gas i just get them refilled at me local welding and gas supplier but if im doing a specialty ( exotic metal) such as stainless with stainless wire ill use argon :):)

argon works particularly well in the mig with 0.8mm aluminium wire but its uick and bloody expensive not to mention a pain in nthe arse to set up properly ;);)

why you ask ??
 
got a patch on the bulkhead to do and its thin plate... had a bit of a practice and even with the welder turned right down it still starts to get hot... but then could just be my **** technique:D

change yer wire to 0.6 wire set yer gas to about half speed then set the wire to somewhere between 4 and 5 and use short sharp blasts watching for your previous burn cooling ( almost dissapearing glow when looking at it through the mask )

takes a little getting used to but when you get a rythem going with it youll be surprised at the difference between that and constant bead welding ;);)
 
thanks for the advice johnny, just managed to get hands on a new auto mask so will give that a go soon.. will seem strange not nodding the other mask down all the time..:D

just remember with the new auto masks some arent as fast at reacting to arcing up remember to blink when you do or youll end up flashed :cool::cool::cool:
 
right back to the plot ive done a little graft and made a bit of progress on the arse end this last couple of days and shes starting to look ok in my mind



and fixed the struts under the rear tub battered the tub floor straight as itll go for now and lashed it with the blue after several coats of primer schults and a quick blow over with the blue ready to go on in the next couple of days or attempts at doing a day without disturbance

i cant find anything wrong with the original ones otherwise id have changed them but they are on my list of tinkering things to do next year my main objective at the moment is to get it running and looking as mint as possible and through its first mot in 20 years then ill start with the brand new seats springs exhaust and anything else thats creeping into me little list of things im not totaly happy with :D:D:D:D

this project is just one of those things its in a back yard open to the elements the yard is about 18 feet either direction 1 old wash house packed to the hilt with landy pannels and me shed wich is so crammed with tools it looks like a walk in tool box

the time aspect is im on the sick with depression and the doc insisted i find something to do with me time while we get me snappy temper sorted and calm meself down
so to get round me doris i picked this landy

and money its cost me a total of £85 on paint consumables and parts so far

well to get this in me yard i took the back fence down and rebuilt it behind me with a few quick unscrew modifications means i can take it down and put it back up in under 5 minutes if i need to :D:D

best part is from the courtyard out back youd never guess theres a vehicle in there :cool::cool:
