right done the bloody badass outrigger and had most of the day cleaning n prepping parts and fittings ready for the bulkhead going on in the morning thing is me daughter has just gone on half term holiday today and ive just timed it right to be able to do a load of quiet nutty bolting while shes around ( the noise of the grinder and drill frightens her to death )



finished the bulkhead ready for the big lift :D:D:D:



sorted the dash back pannel out with a good clean and some satin black paint



and i was shocked when me mate from over the street came over and started wiping the dash top down with brake fluid and a rag :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: about to go balistic but its brought the vynl covering up like factory new im absolutely amazed at the finish considering it had gone grey being bleached by the sun and brittle its now supple shiny and black again

 
your doing a brilliant job. id be scared of getting her dirty the effort you are going to. did the corner piece come up ok too?

didnt get that far to be honest i was more concerned with getting evrything ready so theres a big lump of progress comeing before the **** weather comes back around ;);)

i got to go for the final scan with the missus in the morning but i should get a load done in the afternoon though :cool::cool:
 
cool i hope everything goes ok with the scan, are you flying through this project b4 the littlen arrives? time is closing in on you lol
 
why do you think im going at this pace coz once the little un comes ill have next to no time for the landy so im trying to get it to the tinkering stage fast as i can :D:D:D

missus has just said its like something off grand designs where they have a deadline to build a house before the baby arrives just think ourselves lucky its only a landrover


and besides ive got her doing a bit this morning ( she sprayed the bottom half of the bulkhead coz she wanted to learn ) :confused::confused::confused:

feck me ive just looked at the pics from the begining of the stripdown and didnt realise how far its come along till now

i also remember looking at the bulkhead when i was stripping that and thinking its looking like i need a fookin new one of these :D:D:D

Absolutely brilliant rebuild. I found it last night and was gob smacked by the work you've done in a short time !!! Top stuff - keep it up.
 
reet a quick update i only got 2 hours on her today due to the friggin waiting times at the maternity clinic ( running 2 hours behind ) got home with a pounding migraine and just managed 2 sluggish hours mooching for parts like the armature out of the wiper motor and de siezeing the frigging wire for the wiper units

but ended up with this



 
surprisingly i didnt need to bend , force , lever or leather anything to get the bulkhead back on it just slotted down and sat almost perfectly and ligned up with evry little bolt hole

what a relief :rolleyes::rolleyes:
 
just had a bit of a mad idea

at the top end of me steering column the bearing is absolutely knackered and i spent a good 2 hours fishing the ball bearings out of the steering box

has anyone got a good reason why i cant machine a phosphor bronse bearing bush instead of fitting a new ballrace in the top of the column

ive seen this type of bearing in the top end of mini steering columns lasting well over 40 years without any problems so as long as theres no play in it when ive done and it has some way of carrying grease within itself to help with friction reduction

might want to think of a nylon/teflon type of material would have less drag/friction then phos bronze
 
i dont see why not. you have got all the gear and the knowhow to do it properly. give it a go, whats the wirst that could happen
