Yes my chassis looks in similar con'd to yours if not slightly worse but i don't want to be having patches welding in here and there every now and then so think a new galv chassis is the way to go :)

Im back next week, if you want a hand pressing new bushes in or whatever let me know. :) although im probably going to KoV between 7th and 10th :)

Thanks :)

I am at YNOT fest this weekend, then Cornwall until the 9th anyway.

I have actually gone for polybushes rather than genuine. Will see if that was a wise decision or not...

How is your cambelt knowledge? it is a job I have been dreading...

I am trying to decide whether to fix the chassis up and then sell it, as it really isn't that bad.

Thanks :)

Aah mint I contemplated coming back for y-not but then knowone I knew was going so didnt bother in the end :)

Im not a fan of polybushes but we'll have to see how they do :)

Ive done a fair few cambelts, they're not that hard you've just gotta be methodical :) its all marked anyway so you cant get it too wrong ... he says now :D so much easier to do with the engine out :)

Haha, well any help would be good. I am kind of just learning as I go along.

Weather forecast ain't great, so YNOT might be a bit crap.

Yeah, worst case I will just have to swap out the polybushes for genuine ones.

No worries ive done a fair few for mates especially one that is talented at killing engines  so I can give you a hand :)

Yeah it always rains for y not its part of the fun ;) although last year it sythed it down just after the final act which was good for me as I was going home :)

The problem with polybushes is they just dont seem to last as long the originals lasted 20 odd years, ive heard of people changing polys after 2 -3 years and suffering from harsher rides, they may be easier to change but its less economical if you have to change them more often.

Yeah, I think you are right. I have them now, so may as well see what they are like.

I was at YNOT last year too, some stuff was cancelled due to lightening wasn't it? Pretty impressive!

We are taking the freelander this year as I reckon it's going to be muddy. Obv can't take my 90!

Do you know the green lane that gets you straight to the main gate without having to que on the road for ages ?

Yeah see how they go you might like them ?

I did see the green lane on a map a while ago, can you still get in on that?

Though I am going in convoy with a couple of other cars, not sure they will want to green lane to get there!

Yes, the Darkness were amazing.

Sadly Mr Motivator has cancelled...

As far as I know yeah, could last year :) got some weird looks coming off this track and straight through the gate :D

Did a couple of jobs last night, got the brake disc guards off the rear axle and started cleaning it up.

Think I am going to be lazy and leave the discs in place and paint as it is as I want it back together before Christmas.

As part of it I removed the breather pipe, and a lot of pressure was released. I'm guessing it shouldn't have done that as that is what breathers are for. Would it have caused any problems?

I started mine last summer and wanted it done by that christmas, but I came to the conclusion that doing it properly once was better than doing it twice so mine still isn't finished over a year later. The bracket painting and restoration takes the time so once you start to bolt new bits on it all goes together quite quick.

The only problem it will have caused with the breather pipe would be that the excess pressure would force the oil past the seals.

The only oil that is leaking is strangely from the actual bolts that hold the diff together. I was going to fit a new gasket, but am wondering if it might stop leaking now there is no pressure.

I am going to restore virtually all of it, but save a couple of things, such as brakes and bearings for next year

So today I have ordered a straight through exhaust pipe and a TD5 back box. Hopefully it all fits together as exhausts are new to me! Can I just use normal bolts?

Also had to order a new A frame fulcrum bracket as the old ball joint seems to have fused to it. At least it is one thing that I won't have to paint...

Anyone got any hints on how to remove the A frame arms from the old chassis, nothing seems to budge and I can't get a grinder to it.

Also, how can companies on ebay charge £150 for a new fulcrum and balljoint when you can get them both from LR Direct for about £50? And that is a decent delphi ball joint...

Avoid using nylocs for temperature reasons. Aerotights would be best, Castellated nuts if you can't get the Aeros.
