Hi guys.
I thought I run this question past the more seasoned L322 owners, to get a sensible answer to the question above.
Local to me there's a 2008 L322 TDV8 for sale with a fault. Apparently it's smoking from one exhaust, the owner believes it's a turbo to blame. Unfortunately I don't need an L233 in my fleet, but if there's reasonable money to be made, I don't mind fixing it and flipping it.

So the questions are:
A, what could be causing smoke (it's blue) from one exhaust only.
B, what is an L322 with 165k on the clock, and in nice condition worth on the open private market?

Any help would be appreciated.

Turbo would be my first thought ,I'd guess 3500 to 4000 grand all done

Thanks for the reply.
The seller also suggested the turbo, which is good to know.
So for the price he's wanting, and selling it for £4k, there would be some money in it once I've replaced the turbo, and given it a service. :)
Makes me wonder why he's not fixing it himself, as he seems to have a well equipped workshop.

Not replaced a turbo on one myself but I understand its a shyte job

Walk on. He’s asking ‘been done’ money before hand. If it’s one you really want for your fleet fair enough otherwise only offer 1/2 what he’s asking. Plenty of them about currently they not rare

Have you seen the one I'm talking about for sale?

I don't want one in my fleet, although I do love them, I just can't justify owning one for the sort of use I put my current FL2 through.

Change a turbo takes 2mins as per @backinblack vid;):D.

what else don’t work;)?

If you are willing to take it on be prepared to lose on the deal.

If he has the facility to fix why is he getting rid, there is more wrong:).

I thought the l322 was same as the l320 and the body came off it

must confess I thought the same but then got confused with the RRS , that had a chassis upto around 2013 when it changed from the L320 to a L494 that had the monocoque design

also think the FFRR L322 was the first Range Rover to have a monocoque design

everything is a right sod to change on a l322

lol, wonder how they compare with the D3 for changing parts , seems a trend with JLR for making it difficult ;)

recently changed an intercooler air inlet pipe, omg what a complete and utter nightmare that was , also the rear upper wishbones, bolts need cutting off due to them being rusted solid , took hours as the bolts were hardened steel

dream FFRR would be the L494 with the 8 x speed and TDV8 engine , alas not sure if they have the dynamic anti roll bar system that seem to leak, prefer where the dynamic system is on the struts as they look easier to change

Also looked at the petrol engines but personally think the 5.0 litre V8 would be to much for me , plus insurance on top , hear the TDV8 4.4 is supposed to be a good engine , apart from the odd turbo issue

there's a l322 tdv8 sat in the workshop already had a bottom end rebuild ( the shells span on the crank ) now needs head gaskets and probably a turbo

yikes , I’ve got the TDV6 engine so that’s no better in its reputation , however I imagine a TDV8 would be even more expensive , or are the later ones called SDV8 seeing they have the twin turbos

another motor I really like is the petrol D4, but alas that has the 5.0 litre supercharged

if I did manage to get a L405 would at least a warranty , don’t know if the 8 x speed L322 is better or worse than the L405 , or what the best engines are out of the JLR

Really appreciate the feedback, many thks
