Hi there sorry if this is posted in the wrong place as i'm new to the site.
I have been having massive problems getting insured on a 90.
the average quotes it ridiculous at £8 000+.
Before you ask yes I have been searching around but no one wants to take me on until im 25.
Nfu quoted me 2300 so I went to purchase that yesterday but it was a mistake by the person who quoted me , talk about annoyed right now.
Adrian flux wont touch me as Im not over 21/25 ? and that goes the same for nfu now . I've looked at quotes as named driver or policy holder and all are ridiculous.
I'd be so great full of anyhelp and i have to be fully comp
Im 17 , 18 in a week and male
thanks in advance

Use the search watsit at the top of the page buddy,( I presume you mean you've searched insurance companies and not this site) loads of people have posted this question, and you should get some ideas from that. Good luck though!!. And :welcome2:

Nothing is going to be cheap at your age! Insurance has changed in the last couple of years and its going to get worse! buy a tax exempt series and go for classic insurance will be about £1000 for you at a guess.

Yep, ex MOD Defender 90, re-engined to a 200Tdi. Agreed value of £4000. Any driver over 25 with a licence. £79.00!!!

Lovely!

God and I was happy paying £212, thou that was much better than the 900 they wanted for my mega before i sold it.

Lovely!

What company is that with? are you an old boy or middle aged 50?

That is amazing! you must have an agreed milage of twice up the drive a year

Mine is with sure term direct 2k miles a year and does not need my no claim's as its classic insurance. I am 32 in april and the land is a 1985 2.5 NA 90.

I take my bike to work on every day (bikes are free threw the mersey tunnel, and much faster than the 90) so I only ever go to asda in the 90, I think last year i did 2500 miles but that was only becuse I went to the other side of wales camping.

I am 42. I have full NCB on 2 other cars and also am on my wifes policy. You cant accumulate NCB on this policy anyway. I have mileage restricted to 8500m on the 90 which is twice what I do in the road cars so not an issue for me. If I exceed the 8500m then the policy reverts to the 3rd party only until renewal.

I tend to use one of my bikes most days to get to the train station as its free parking!!

I cant remember the name of the company but they specialise in ex military vehicle insurance. Mine is a 1993 Defender 90 ragtop. Converted from 2.5NA to 200Tdi and power steering. My Sankey is also covered on the same policy for an agreed value of £500. I will look up there details when I get home. As far as I know they only accept drivers over a certain age which I guess is the 25 restriction on my policy. But being able to lend the 90 to anyone over the age of 25 on FC is a real bonus.

I insure through " Be Wise" £270 for a 2.5 tdi 90 and a Volvo v70 t5r fully comp for me and the wife, no mileage limit. But I think the insurance costs are relative, ie when I was 18 it cost me £325 tpft on a twin cam cortina. in 35 years you will still be paying a couple of grand, it's all bollocks when the insurance co's say it will come down when you are 21 ect.

Im 23 with adrian flux an mine is £690 thpft but thats only cos of the roll cage daft orange paint and snorkle etc. they class me as high risk cos its an off road vehicle but my insurance doesnt count offroad anyway so dont see how that works???? A lot of people wouldnt insure me either

Currently paying .... (Drum roll) £53 fully comp classic policy.

Its gone up £2 in the last four years.

Not entirely sure its worth the paper its written on but hey ho throw in FOC road tax a depreciation proof vehicle and I may have (fuel aside) the cheapest motoring costs in the UK?

Welcome. I'm 19 and have 1 years no claims. and i'm paying £1500 on a 110 td5 station wagon. drops to £800 next year with 2 years ncd with nfu. I'm currently insured with admiral. So don't get too disheartened it is possible to insure yourself. NFU insurance is done through brokers so could you try a different broker? Where i live in rural essex there are at least 5 brokers within a 20 mile range!

From what i've found the older engines are the cheapest to insure so the 200tdi is better. However if its had an engine swap it'll probably be classed as modified so you'll get quoted their box standard modded price with some riddicky price added on cause your young.

However be careful with insuring yourself on a named driver policy. As if the car is in your name on the v5 and its classed as your dad/mums car on the insurance its called fronting and is a fraud.

good luck mate. there will be someone out there who'll insure you.

HI thanks for all your help,
I called another nfu branch today and asked if they would insure an 18 year old on a defender and they said they would but only if my parents had an existing policy with them .
so heres the plan get my mum and dad to insure themselves on a really cheap car with nfu so if this doesnt work out they arent left paying hundreds. Then a week after they have that policy going get quoted and insured for the landy ?? has anyone done this before ??
He also said that the 2.5 td5 would be ok to insure but I hope he doesnt mean over £5k

thanks again for all your help

couldn't you just get your rents to switch from their current insurer to nfu? save you buying some ****ty old car. You can get refunds for the remaining insurance if you stop before the end of the year. But i can't fault nfu, dam good insurers.

I think when i first passed my test i was payin around 2k on a td5. but that was a year and a bit ago, and insurance has gone up. Wouldn't thought it had gone up that much tho! just tell them the usual ****e, like you keep it garaged etc. at least for your first year to keep the quote low.

never mind the ****ing whiplash get your arse to the doctors complaining of a constant ringing in your ears specially when its quiet

the doc will put it down to something called tinitus wich is worth a cool £10 grand easy and its near impossible to disprove :D

Insurance is only gonna keep going up and you can thank people like the poster here giving such sage advice after an accident.....

Cheers Steve
