Hello All,

Im in need of some info. Ive got a P38 diesel thats kicking out black smoke when i boot it and puffs it out on gear changes,,,,, also get a misfire/fluttering at 1500/1700 rpm.... im sure its fuel related and been advised i need a live diagnostic done,,, does anyone know of a mobile set up in Birmingham as i cant move the car with no tax or MOT that dont charge an arm and a leg. Black sooty smoke can be attributed to a clogged Intercooler and/or EGR valve too....A clogged EGR will also cause low power lower in the rev range!
 
Thanks Lads ill have a butchers this morning,,,, Saint, I havent got an EGR,,,, i think the rav says its on the left inner wing near the bulkhead ,,,,, nowt there mate... as for the intercooler thats a poss , hows the best way to flush it out,,,, it is a bit oily on the outside on one end.
The MAF pipe was new not 200miles ago but i think the bits it goes to could well be full of **** ive never checked. cheers maties

EGR is on the front of the manifold Tom. Check the MAP take off at the manifold isn't blocked.
Soak the intercooler in Acetone overnight to clean it, rinse with more Acetone and allow to dry before you refit it.
 
Be prepared to pay £20 for 5 litres.
Dont most women have gallons of this stuff lying in their handbags, in the bathroom, under the dog etc?
 
Well i found the egr thing, couldnt tell if it was blocked or not but there was a lot of black gunk on it so washed it a blow it out till it looked like new ( fingers crossed) cant do the intercooler till the acetone arrives tuesday..... Something i did notice was No1 injector had wet black gunk around its base, the other 5 were clean and dry,, could this be a blow back prob or just a bit of bleeding,,,, Had all the hoses off and checked for splits or blockages all seem ok bit ***ty on the ouside but ok inside. Had a good look at the pump too, no signs of any leaks, was bone dry on the outside,,,,, hehehe im running out of cheap options aint i , something i did notice this morning when i started her up from cold i got quick cloud of crap the it went clear,,, ticking over even stone cold there wasnt a trace of any smoke, just the usual belch of black when i hit the gas,,, ohwell onward and upward
