Well i found the egr thing, couldnt tell if it was blocked or not but there was a lot of black gunk on it so washed it a blow it out till it looked like new ( fingers crossed) cant do the intercooler till the acetone arrives tuesday..... Something i did notice was No1 injector had wet black gunk around its base, the other 5 were clean and dry,, could this be a blow back prob or just a bit of bleeding,,,, Had all the hoses off and checked for splits or blockages all seem ok bit ***ty on the ouside but ok inside. Had a good look at the pump too, no signs of any leaks, was bone dry on the outside,,,,, hehehe im running out of cheap options aint i , something i did notice this morning when i started her up from cold i got quick cloud of crap the it went clear,,, ticking over even stone cold there wasnt a trace of any smoke, just the usual belch of black when i hit the gas,,, ohwell onward and upward

Spill pipe leaking at some time. That is the only injector that has a well to retain it.

Well its wednesday and " Clean" intercooler day, fingers crossed,,,,, daft question but ,,,, how long for the smoke to clear ,,, will it stop right off or have to burn out any crap left in the plumbing... Oh how i long for the days of points, condensers, su carbs aaaaand DYNAMOS lol lol lol

The more crap that you get out of the intercooler, EGR a and pipes then the less there is to burn. Do you reckon that the EGR was bunged up purely from lack of servicing or have you considered that the oil separator in the rocker cover could be FUBARed, or at least in need of some TLC?

Morning D/B, Well ive just finished flushing the inter,,, not a lot came out, what there was was like tiny chips of black paint,,, dont think it wa enough to block it so not hopeful on that front,,, the oil seperator sounds good its one thing i havent looked at ,,, the EGR was mucky so washed and blew it out till it like new, pipes are all new,,,, im running out of cheap options lol lol just the crank sensor to go then its down to pump and injectors

Thinking back a while the misfire stared when i changed the in tank lift pump and if im honest the smoke has probably been there a while just this was the first MOT that failed it. Now i know this sounds OFF THE WALL,,, but a while back i changed over to coil springs with a kit from Island4x4, had no problems with it but ,,,, could the wiring conversion be giving this misfire prob as springs and pump were changed at about the same time

Ah, you fitted coils:eek: The misfire and smoke is undoubtedly caused by the car getting it's own back for being abused:rolleyes:
You could check the pump is working I suppose.:)

lol lol lol Then i better buy her some chocies and bunch of flowers, ive checked the pump its giving a good pressure at the filter inlet.... again thinking back when i did the pump the tank was full of black " stuff " was told it was algie ( yeh i cant spell ) so i hand washed the tank took hours and flushed all the pipes best i could with clean diesel and comp air,,, changed the fuel filter.. just wondering if the pump could be full of the same stuff ???????

There you have your answer, the FIP will be full of the stuff and so will the injectors. You need Algicide to kill it properly, you could try adding 5 litres of petrol to a full tank or some injector cleaner. Oh and change the filter again.
Any boatyard or farm supplier will have algicide. ( I can't spell it either LOL)
Otherwise you are into removing the injectors and possibly the FIP for cleaning. With diesel, especially in winter, it's advisable to keep the tank full which will prevent algie developing as it need condensate to develop.:)

Morning Guvna.
I did go down that line when it first happened.. ( boat yards in birmingham and like hens teeth) i did try a boat yard and was told the stuff wasnt any good in a plastic tank,so i clean everything i could by hand,, now the car has stood for about 12 months so i guess there could be a build up again,, but even after i first did the job i still had the misfire so i can only assume it has to be whatever was left in the pump or injectors,,,,, OK , pump and injectors ,,,, am i getting into alchemy and the dark arts here ,,,,

Always leave a diesel with a full tank.
As I said above, you can try adding petrol or injector cleaner, you may be lucky. Algie in the tank was the bane on my life on boats.

I did add a couple of lots of injector clean at the time but it didnt help,,, if ive need to strip the pump and or injectors is it a DIY job or am i gona spend some MORE money lol

No, unless you really know what you are doing don't touch the injection pump or injectors.

Got a couple of quotes for having the fip refurbed,,, they were priceing with phone numbers are there any probs with removing and refitting myself and just letting them get inside the pump,,,, would halve the bill if i can save the labour charges

You would need to buy/borrow the kit to re-time it, not an easy job.

Hello Lads,,,,,, Well i know this was :crazy:but i had this urge to ignor good advice and attack the FIP,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i know i know you all warned me,,,, however, i set about cleaning and poking and proding and had just started to think OH S**T when the g/f said why dont you talk to Bob ( here brother )he worked at Lode lane,,,,, well to cut it short Bob was press ganged and plied with JD,,,, then left in the garage with a pile of bits. Ive now changed his name to Merlin and he,s on the Xmas list,,, when she fired up smoke belched everywhere, we took her for a bit of a drive and 3 to 4 miles later smoke had gone, no chuffing on gear changes, no smoke if i floored it,,, and i have one happy daughter and my Bp is falling nicely,,,, Thank you all for the help and support. Tom
