Did you remove the metal cover plate by removing these two screws? I started to undo them but stopped, as I didn’t want a spring escaping and no indicators.

Cant remember now fella, twas years ago, where the stalk enters the switch, what have you got in there?

My first port of call would be too run some switch cleaner through it, or any degreasing type of stuff, brake cleaner, paraffin, petrol, WD40, anything like that, then dry it and try it.

If that works run some lube through it.

I think I’d have to remove the screws, as I can’t get to the internals from the side or rear. I think the spring may have broken, or has been dislodged somehow - the indicator now self-cancels on every right turn. Blue ring; tabs and steering wheel are all correctly aligned.
I’ll try removing the front plate later, hopefully be able to have a look at the internals!

If its already broken you dont have mush to lose, do it somewhere where bits can be found if it all goes pear shaped.
They are very simple things and will be self explanatory when you get it apart.

Well, I took it apart and as you said, they are very simple on the inside. Need to be careful not to lose any of the small parts that may fall out. The problem turned out to be a damaged spring - the top spring which pushes the contact-making ball bearing. Not sure how the spring got damaged, it may have been when I have manually held the indicator up when it was trying to cancel prematurely. Anyway, I straightened it out and it’s working ‘perfectly’ again. Cheaper than forking-out for a new switch too.

Tight wad - When mine busted a mate had a spare, then i knackered it as the ball bearings fell out cos I'm a biff. Ended up having to buy a new one.

Good stuff, did you tighten up the contacts? That should be working better than a new one now!
