OK, this WAS intermittent. Now the car is stuck on the drive.

Here's the issue, I can't turn the key in the lock.

1. Tried both keys
2. Wiggled Steering Wheel
3. Tapped key lightly with hammer (rubber mallet)
4. Used Can of Air
5. Used WD-40
6. Shouted
7. Pleaded

None of these things helped the key turn.
50+ tries...

(No, I dont have loads of keys either, I only have fob and house key on the keyring)

What's my best course of action?

1. I don't have the Haynes Manual for it, but could get one.
2. Locksmith? (DO I have to do hald the job for him?
3. Screwdriver?

Thanks

Max

take your back off the barrel then see if it turns I think just 2 screws hold it on, it may be the actual ingnition switch jammed up but when you have taken it on the barrel and tried the key and it still will not work then it is your barrel jammed.
hope this helps

This happened to me mate a year a go its gona cost unless you do it yourself i was quoted £1800 from steelers, new barrel key and coded, then you got 2 keys unless you get the other door locks changed. anyway i did it myself which was a pig cause you got to drill out the break off screws that fasten your barrel in. good look mate, hope you know a good lock smith.

Is it possible to remove the barrel without taking of the assembly'

I knock there's a rivet I have to punch out. (If I punch out the rivit what's the deal when I put it back together?)
But is it possible to do this in situ?

I got the key turning again by removing the cowl and tapping the whole lock with a hammer and them WD40-ing the whole lot.

PS: What's the best way to clean out the lock if I can't remove in situ?

hi mate mine is a 03 plate and there was no way to remove the barrel without removing the assembly but i couldn't get the key to turn and the steering lock was on, the little rivet you are talking about at the end of the barrel doesn't go all the way through if i remember correctly, this as to be drilled out, drill to far and your barrel is u/s. so you may have it a little easer than i.

Some say to avoid WD-40, others use it.

Try graphite powder on your key and insert it and remove it several times before trying to turn the key.
