You lost me at LPA, never mind, best of luck.
;):)

Lasting Power of Attorney =LPA

Basically permission to do things on behalf of somebody that maybe cant. Lots of conditions apply, Mostly, Medical or/and Financial.

Its worth a look. If you think you have charge of a loved 1, you don't unless you have 1.

Went through it last year for M & J. Discussed it with Mum & Dad they have done them now.

One of our dottirs mentioned it to W a while back. W doesn't want to know, don't blame her said dottir is going a bit doolali herself!
But thanks for clarifying.;):)

The string is on an angel, how did you calculate the extra? What's "H"

Show us your workings ;).

J
The circ is 4, the height or length of the tube is 12.
The string goes around the tube 4 times.
If you cut the tube where the string goes each time it crosses a line along the length of the tube, running from where the string starts to where it ends, then unroll each section of tube, you end up with 4 rectangles each of which has the string going as a diagonal from one corner to the opposite corner.
Each rectangle has a height of 3 and a width of 4. So the diagonal is 5. By Pythagoras.
So as you have 4 sections, 4 x 5 =20.

Formula for a helix; length of string = n x square root of (diameter squared + pitch squared). n is the number of pitches.
Ha! Ha!

My way is easier! and much easier to work out!

I have just tried to work it out your way and cannot get it right.

I too am flummoxed by "number of pitches" do you mean 4? As that is the number of turns it makes?
And where does height or length of the cylinder come into your equation?

Another easy way to do it is to imagine the whole cylinder rolled out so you have a rectangle of height 12 and width across the bottom of 16. (The cylinder would have to be more than one thickness of paper obvs.)

So you now have a big rectangle, the string forms the diagonal and thus two right angled triangles.
12 squared plus 16 squared = hypotenuse squared.
144 + 256 = 400
Square root of 400 = 20.

There you go, 2 easy ways.

Trust me its worth looking at.
Cos its surprising what You cant do in the event of "doolali" or major care.

J
Believe me, we are looking at it, the doolali dottir is currently the executor of our wills.
Luckily whichever of us goes first the other one gets the lot, so that isn't the problem, but the problem could then arise for the surviving spouse. Which is where we would have to decide who to have holding the LPA.
Doesn't bear thinking about but it DOES have to be thought about.
I have no relation I know or trust who is not in worse health than me, and the one who IS that bad I'm not sure I would trust him to not be influenced by his son.

I wrote my formula down a bit wrong, where I said diameter, I meant circumference. Dunces cap on. Yes, number of pitches is 4. Pitch is 1/4 of the length of the cylinder, = 3

Formula: length of string = n x square root of (circumference squared + pitch squared
L = 4 x square root of (4 squared + 3 squared)
L = 4 x root 25 = 20.

And I was not gonna do hard sums this week --------- :rolleyes:

So now we know that n = 4 and
Edited me post a bit to clarify. String goes round 4 times so pitch =4. Pitch is 1/4 of the "h" ie 1/4 of 12.
But a 1/4 of 12 is 3 not 4.
Do you mean "Pitch is 1/n of the h" which is 1/4 x 12 which =3?

OK got you.
So lets do the equation.
length of string = 4 x root (1.6211 + 9)
l = 4 x 3.259
l = 13.
Ooops, no!

Sorry, still don't get it.
