The square is 3x3. If yer look at the diagonal line from the bottom left, its at 45 degrees. So square. If yer look at the top of the orange triange its 2/3 high. Tis 2/3 from the left. If yer draw'd a line down from the top of the triangle there is one block to the right, 2 high, wiv half ovvit orange. 1x2 then devide by 2 is 1 unit of 9. Do the same for the rest of the triangle. 2x2 then devide by 2. Answer is 1+2 = 3. So orange triangle is 3/9 or 1/3.
or using arithmetic and 3 x 3 square;
orange triangle has base = 3 units and height 2 units.
1/2 base x height = area of triangle:- 1/2 x 3 x 2 = 3 units. ie 3/9 of the square or 1/3.

Yep remembered that and managed to work out the lengff of the hypoteneuse of the the right hand triangle. 4.472 units.
But that still didn't get me anywhere.
I am sure there is a very simple explanation/solution to this, I just can't see it and others on that forum cain't neeva!
according to the marks across the top, the square is 4 x 4.
But yep agree with you that, in the end , the result is 1/3
No matter how you are all looking at it now, I am just happy that at 1/3 I got it right.
At first sight it sort of looks like that,It’s 25% how can you lot not see it.
Look at the non shaded areas

To the left you have a non-shaded area that is 50%
To the right you have a non shaded area that is 25%
BUT at the top right both of these overlap with a small triangle shared between 'em.
So it can't be 25%
And just looking at it you can tell that it is bigger than that.

Can it not be both.
If both diagonals of the square are drawn, corner to corner, that would divide the square into 4 equal triangular parts, each would be 25% of the square. So the answer cannot be 25% for the question posed.It’s 25% how can you lot not see it.
