It probably wouldn't be a good idea to rent a place without looking at it first. Estate agents' pictures tend to make everything look bigger. Plus you can check things like 'Do I actually get the use of that parking space?' and see if it's within reach of a hosepipe or extension lead, which makes life a lot easier when you've got a car. As well as ask about any additional fees or service charges on top of the advertised rent. Plus, and this is something I look for when renting property, see if it's got those dreadful card meters for the energy, which puts me right off. Dorset isn't that far away from where you live @gstuart and it's certainly possible to get there and back in a day, so if you arrange more than one viewing it's worth the trip. Good luck. It's a very expensive part of the world. That's why I'm planning my retirement for Wales, which is a bit more affordable.

Many thks , great point with regards to pictures , plus then I’ll be able to see what the neighbour is like, amenities , Gp etc

alas a round trip would be in excess of 300 x miles so alas with my back issues wouldn’t stand a chance doing that kind of trip in a day , nowadays it would take me around 3-4 days to do 150 x miles as I would need to take breaks and rest overnight

Don’t mind admitting it’s soul destroying as would often pop to swanage and back in a day no problems but now those days are sadly long gone

over time it will allow me to investigate things like where to send my post, if I decide to stay in the landy I would assume camp sites would have a 14 x day restriction unless they would allow me to stay longer if I explain the situation to them

Would be handy to get one with an electric hook up as can then plug my charger in along with using a laptop etc

Thks again

lol, other option I thought was instead of sleeping in my car if maybe I could rent a mobile home off season . But wow some prices are eye watering , wouldnt want to loose a lot of dead money just on a temp place, , think it would be very comfy if I got a half decent air bed for the landy , has tons of room

Other issue is having an address to forward my mail onto, assume camp grounds won’t allow it and won’t be able to if I’m staying in my landy , hopefully over time I can resolve these problems , do have a FBH in the landy already so that’s one bonus

Funny enough I wondered that if the army camp was still there , sorry I’m waffling , lol, just so nice being able to chat

Post can be forwarded to a Post Office Box, you can pick it up from the Delivery Office when you wish ...

Seriously wonder why not as you live on your own except for the dogs, and if you have a septic tank they can't charge you for sewage which is way more expensive than the watter.
As you may remember I have been having serious problems with the water company and their very high pressure main which feeds directly into my property - it is almost a year now since they were supposed to be fitting a pressure reducing valve on the mains feed OUTSIDE my property and they have yet to do it. Until that is done I am not prepared to do anything on my side of the inlet feed. Water coming in at between 8 and 10 bps (?) is a lot of gushing water - I have had two husepipes burst in the garden!!

Many thks , use to really enjoy the Dorset steam fair many years ago as a kid , useto stay mainly on the isle of purbeck every year , another thing I really enjoyed were the small village markets and the meat was gorgeous , particularly the lamb chops, sausages etc

That’s a great shame in it not running , heard the Bromley pageant also won’t run this year but think that’s down to ULEZ

That’s another bonus of moving miles away as won’t have to then get rid of my landy , saying that it seems many other towns are doing one scheme or another
Firstly Blandford Camp is still there and a large reason why Blandford is still sort of booming, It IS a very nice place to live as are a lot of the little places just north of it.
Bovington and some of the other squaddy type places can be cheap but the ones where the orficers live are posher and more spensive.
W says "why don't you wait until you have a crop of properties to come and see then come and stay with us for a little while so you have a base to drive out from, obvs this can only happen in the winter 6 months, but you would be very welcome."
So there you go, one less thing to worry about, and you'll have doggies to hug and landies to talk about!🤣🤣

and a bit of wine to sup on an orl!

So indeed looks like a PO box isn’t much more expensive than mail forwarding , thks again for the great advice @Dippypud

As WhiskeyLassie has said Blandford Camp is close to the town, but once a year The Great Dorset Steam Fair comes to town and the roads become rock solid tail backs for about 10 days ...

Although it appears that this year the Event will not run ... https://www.gdsf.co.uk/
Blandford itself has a bypass so traffic isn't bad, and although the steam fair does take a lot of people, in September, it doesn;'t impinge too much, we used to go every year but it got too samey and one year there was a massive ruckus.

Read this to find out why the Fair is not running and sadly may never run again. It is all down to costs.

Eye gas 100+200+200+220L of water butts :)
Finking of gerrin some more for the summer. If eye got meself motivated eye could run a pipe from me castle roof to fill the ones eye have int sumner. Saves gerrin some more.
Yep, just do it, you'll be amazed at how little it takes to fill them. I once found a calculation online as to how much rain has to fall for you to get so many litres per minute, it ain't much. Which is why we have never ever even in a drought got to the bottom of our suge watter tank.

Hope that everyone has a lovely weekend

May I pick ur brains plse, even though it’s 2-3 x years away of me moving to Dorset been looking around of what rents are for particular properties and areas

Noticed a few that if u have a pet it’s an extra £25 per month , so indeed working out around £300 per year , understand paying an extra deposit but that seems high or is that the norm plse , will only be a small, pet like a King Charles or bichon, others of course won’t allow any pet, can respect that seeing it’s there property and it’s there rules

Looked around the blandford area which looks very nice and only 30 x minutes away from the coast , feel that’s far enough to get away from tourist areas as wouldn’t want to get caught up in the endless traffic each time during the summer months, plus plenty of countryside as that’s my goal to find a place either on a farm or in the middle of knowhere

at the end of the day think I’ve got 2 x choices , when I’m ready and saved enough of giving my place up, move my stuff into storage in Dorset, that will allow me to drive around all different areas and letting agents , or stay where I am and wait for a property to come up , but wouldn’t see it in person until I move , always been terrible with decisions , lol , but this has been a dream for 50 plus years and simply don’t want to grow old where I’m currently at

Once again hope u didn’t mind me asking and everyone has a lovely weekend , many thks
Eye has been to the steam fare once. Its a nice area but google says its one of the most expensive places to buy and rent. So yer costs to live are going to go up.

When yer move from local authority housing to private renting, yer opening yerself up to the perils of private renting. Expect to be moved on at some point with not much notice. Expect price renewals to reflect market rate. You will be renting from an invester, running a business.

If yer live in yer car you will technically be homeless. That may cause problems. Peeps may refuse renting to you because of this. Also if yer not in work then some will be nervous of renting to you.

You face a difficult decision. I'm not convinced its financially possible to run a big expensive car, and move. You won't want to hear this but making yer motoring costs cheaper is somefink yer need to consider.

I appreciate this post ain't what yer want to hear. But eye is concerned yer budget is too tight for future rent rises and the increase in the cost of living coming soon, which we won't be able to avoid.

Sadly yes I do remember that.
I am thinking that as you have the right to have a water meter fitted that may force them to come and do all the work needed to sort you and your problems out.
We have a pressure reducing valve, as do many peeps over here as it is needed to stop the white goods going "pop" they are really not very complex things.
I bet a water meter has to operate on a lower pressure, others may know more accurately.
At any rate I don't think you have anything to lose by trying.

Oh mate I don’t know what to say , that would be amazing a massive , massive thank u to your good self and ur beloved

Ahhh bless that would be gorgeous to be round dogs again as my god I miss candy , will get another dog but thinking of it would be best to wait until I’ve moved , once settled I’ll then have all the time to train it and by waiting iill just have myself to worry about and not the extra worry of a puppy

Can’t believe how lucky I am to have such wonderful mates , so that’s a great plan, clear the house , save enough money and then move, will more than likely get my stuff moved into storage , as then it makes life a lot easier being out of one place so I can then move very quickly

Ideal with it being winter as the roads will be emptier plus seeing places as they normally are

Indeed hope to find a village or very remote place

Don’t mind admitting am bought to tears with such kindness , thk u so much from the bottom of my heart to u and ur beloved that takes a huge obstacle out of the way , you’ve seriously made me year as I can’t wait till I’m finally ready to move and make a 50+ year dream come true
