Engine in my little truck is running rough
It's a Briggs and Stratton 12 hp intek engine and only done a few hours from new.
The engine ran lovely three months ago, very smooth tickover and very slow tickover if required.

Started her up the other week to prepare for Autumn show and the engine wouldn't idle, any where near tickover and the engine would kick and backfire so
I put new fuel in
Cleaned and gapped the plug
Cleaned out the float bowl and blew carb cleaner through the jets, all clean
Cleaned the flywheel

Engine still the same, wont idle and backfires at low revs, like it's running weak
No adjustment on carb except for one screw with a plastic shroud on it which goes quarter of a turn only

Going to gap the coil tomorrow
Something not right after standing three months but can't think what it might be
Any suggestions appreciated

Does yours have a lever you push to the choke position prior to starting?
If so, does it adjust when you return to the hare or tortoise (or whatever image you have) position?

Try a new spark plug.:)

Quote thingy not working...

I've taken the linkage off as the engine ran like a lawn mower at a constant revs
I fitted a throttle cable and I work the choke lever manually
If I give it choke when warm it runs better for a second or two but then overfuelled

I'll try a new plug :)

No diaphragm
I thought it was slow running jet but all cleaned out now
Must be electrical so next is set gap on coil then plug and lead

Ah ok good luck with it. :)

I had a floating caravan yer another v8 running like a bag of bones, 4 of the 8 plugs were cracked I busted one taking it out
as I heard the crunch as I fell forward over the engine & busted it as my ratchet went to the side.

I've busted the porcelain on a few plugs, since when I always use a T-bar, with extensions if necessary, (Extension bars from the socket set) to at least get it started. But that may well be impossible in the confined space of the "engine room" of a gin palace!
Which is why I always carry spares. Last one I bust was on a French trip with my kit car club that I was leading. If I hadn't had spares I'd have been well booogad!! And yes I did swear and yes W's female mate thought it was funny.
