You do still pay income tax as a pensioner, unless your works pension is so low, it plus the state one are below the threshold. Your state pension is "untaxed". It is all bull droppings.
But his company I think are tyring to save money on him and to scare him into going part time.

Well got me oles filled and setup for the next set. trying not to think about how many I have to dig.
For the nosey who want to know @Stone56 & @Stanleysteamer and all others that didn't even know they need to know
They are mini piles cos the ground has been built up and I still don't think has stopped moving, So a couple of feet deep to get into old dirt then filled with concrete to ground level then a 10" piece of 4" soil pipe stuffed in and filled with concrete it so it sticks out about 4" above the ground then a wall fixing stud pushed in. Then I can lay 2x4s across and fix down so they don't touch the ground to then screw decking on it
Yep I was laying decking last year but started to late in the year as it just got to hot to be working on it. So trying to get a head start on it this year to finish in the mild weather
Just come in, been told its colly chesse wif chips and beans for the workers today

Same here been court out to meny Times in the past with concrete and mortar going off before you can use it at the moment login up 20 trees I cut down last year but my chipper is playing up so a strip down today to have a look when it gets light outside

Well acksherlly I did need to know this...... a few years back when I thought I needed to extend our back patio out from the house with decking over some land that had only been put there fairly recent so couldn't be counted on as being stable.
None of the stuff about how to do this that I found on line said this, And I wasn't going to get proper "slam it in till refusal " piling. So I never did it.
So yes, two nosey peeps with a place in that there Yurope who do this sort of fing!!!

Lovely bit of kit
Bit fed up really.
Measuring up for new worktop. Too many angles either just over or just under 90 degs.
Don't have a proper protractor.

Trouble is the space it has to "slide" into is a rhombus but with the longer edge at the window wall. So it won't slide in.

I fink I can get away wiv it by making the sides parallel and using the thickness of the tiles at the awkward end to cover any gap I will have to leave. The cut out for the trunking is the same, a right pain.
I am using the old worktop as a template but I'll be modifying it as it was a right bar tender to fit and that was with thinnner tiles on the walls.
I always over think stuff like this.
Tis a failing. One of many.
Still at least we now have a few gardeners possibly looking to to do the work when we are away, courtesy of Nextdoor. It does have its uses.

Lots he can do to minimise the tax. Salary Sacrifice scheme, put more in the company pension (max it out and max out the employers contribution (it's free money).
Last 10 years of my job I put in £1309 a month and the company had to put in their maximum to match it. Boosted my pot to over half a mill.

Main trubble was that my decking was going to be 1 meter off the ground to link to the one on the raised patio. Twas more trouble than it was worth so we boxed in a corner between two big parts of the house with another two low walls of blocks, then filled the gap with earth and rubble, then on top of that fixed sheets of reinforcing rebar type netting stuff then got a loory to pour concrete over the roof of the house and into it. Slabbed that an all is cushti!
Now have three patios; one slabbed and uncovered, a real suntrap, (too hot to use in real hot weather, we'll get a sail thing opver it one day) one slabbed and covered, closed on three sides can be used even in the rain and one decked and covered but open on three sides. All at different levels. Tricky thing was making steps from and to and to the path below. Me is no stonemasonist!

Woudln't have one of those beggars anywhere near. And thye'd never do the mods I do without charging like mad. How many tileists do you know who would do mitres? Without charging by the milllimetre? How many would shave 2mm off three units just to make them fit wall to wall?

We did get them to quote. total joke. One bloke couldn't even see how to solve a fairly simple problem.
Anyway despite my grumbling I quite like doing it.
But the gardinger will be doing it while we are away!! So we deffo needs one!
And in case peeps have forgotted, I tiled first cos the worktop will be wider than most and leaning over it to do the tiling would kill my back as it cannot take leaning at a slight angle. Bigger angles are bizarrely OK. a;though I know others with the same problem.
I can imagine that too. But in that case he/she was prolly in the wrong job.
As I think I have mentioned there are some who just have nervous breakdown then pack it in. A good friend of mine who was a good teacher and had no problems at all once walked out a sixth from lesson to get something, picked it up and found himself unable to go back into the classroom. Just stood there shaking. He told me all about it and he just couldn't understand it. Had to retire sick.
Another head of a creative studies faculty, ex railway engineer, bridges, stations etc, had a bad Ofsted and left to go and work for himself. The Ofsted was, as usual, meaningless.
I could bore you with lots of examples.
It is a funny old game.
