I went out to the "shop" for a little play with the lathe.
I was disappointed to find the compound/cross-slide moved far too much on all parting attempts. I could see it visibly "dancing about".
I have tightened the gibs on the cross-slide and it certainly feels much "TIGHTER" but at what point does tightness induce early wear/unusable action I wonder?
It is a trade off. The gib is designed to be a wear item that can be replaced. You can, just whilst parting, nip down one gib screw as a slide lock.
Replace the grub screw with a thumb screw on the one nearest to you.
I expect you already know this but keep the pressure on at an even rate as you go and don't push it too heavily.
Fun and extremely addictive aren't they!!

Much warmer today but not raining, yet.
I 'aven't told 'em but it is a trip to the Groomers today, meanwhile they both slumber on in their chosen places.
I've finished my mornin' cuppa and must now get up and take them for their walk before delivering them to the Groom Room, then, with them out of the day it is full scale blitz on the house work!
Enjoy your day, folks.:)
