Fanks. Why does the ratio drop fer winter? Does it need more sment ter hold ter geffer when cold?
The theory is, cement gives off heat when it hydrates, so a bit more in winter helps stop it freezing. Mortar which freezes before it has set and got some strength goes "dead" and useless. In practice, brickies have always chucked a bit more cement in the mix in winter 'cos it works. The important thing is to protect from freezing temperatures.
