Yesterday I set off on a drive to a friends, going down the road at 60 and the whole car starts to violently vibrate,as if im driving down a cobbled street, steering wheel vibrating, the lot!
Checked-Every bush, checked all wheel bearings too
Every joint, swapped wheels over to no avail.
At 1500 rpm on tickover the engine judders as if its misfiring, but its not.Switch it off and theres a clunk, from the bottom end.
Iv had both props off to check for play and theyre both fine.
Could the DMF cause this sort of jip? it sets off right enough and I can get all gears.
I removed the front prop and locked the diff manually at the transfer box too, when dumping the clutch on the spot pretty quickly theres a rather loud clunk that occurs, which leads me to question whether it could be the box also??
Either way its really beginning to get me down

This aft iv been chasing this fault, removed the front prop, checked for play-fine.
Drove at the same speed-still the same.
Reattached and hit the speed it starts then grew some steel in my genital area and carried on to 75 and it cleared...wheel balancing perhaps?
The dmf is undoubtedly on the way though,it creeps forward when 1st is selected....
Its towing on sunday, let the fails begin LOL

Balance maybe but just as likely a duff tyre.

mine had a vibration at 60, took rear wheels and got em balanced, the tyres were Goodride, they were egged in shape, cheap **** tyres,

If its still shuddering and vibrating at idle then you may want to be looking at your engine mounts

I'm voting for tyres too. Our Clio had a worrying vibration around 60mph even with new front boots. Turned out to be the rears.

Tyres sounds a good place to start.

Also, has a balance weight popped off one of the wheels?

Check the simple things first.

My disco 1 200tdi would shake violently after going over a slightly rough bit of road so I was checking all the bushes turned out the wheels were in need of balancing and it's cured it now so it's worth getting checked.
as for at idle you could have the idle effecting tyres :D other than that I don't know

Check engine mounts,

There is a small hole in the bottom of them, slide a 6mm drill bit into it, should go in 10 mm or so, any less, (say 2 - 3 mm) and they're scrap, they're oil filled, so you may see wetness

About £40 each, and easy to do on the floor, although a helper is handy
