4.6 V8 2000 Model

Got some misfires showing up on the Hawkeye both on petrol and LPG.

I had a look under the bonnet in the dark last night and could see some very faint arcing near the leads.

As I haven't had the car too long but have replaced most of the engine! (Turner Short Engine), I thought it might be wise to replace the HT Leads and perhaps the coil pack.

Island 4x4 are advertising high performance HT leads made with silicone and a ferromagnetic core. They also have a complete coil pack by Britpart.

Does anyone have any experience of these products or suggestions as to a better product?

Last time I looked island4x4 were selling an individual Britpart Thor coil packs for £24ish, but the twin pack was around the £140 mark for some reason! Far cheaper to buy two individuals. Mistake or weird purchasing arrangement - I don't know.

Also the HT leads.

The coil packs look difficult to get at, any tips for changing them.

Ok... Thank you for this threat I will be able to save around £300!!!!

What is the procedure to change this part? Do you need to unplug the battery? What should I be careful about?

And don't get too ****ty when you skin your knuckles trying to get round the back of the block!!!

Small hands with long fingers (ooh err Mrs!) are what's needed.

Editted to add: - Oh and do one lead at a time. Don't be tempted to pull a few off at once. I couldn't find any logic in the sequence mine went on.

What an awful job to do, getting the coils out was more difficult than putting the new ones back in for sure.

I unbolted the mounting plate disconnected all the HT leads but still had to take each coil pack off the plate before pulling them out.

I was able to put the new ones on the plate and get that back as one assembly.

Put the new HT leads on and fired up the motor, there was a definite misfire still, but not the same as before I started. I checked the HT lead order on the coil packs and all seemed OK.

I then put the Hawkeye on and it showed constant mis-fires on cylinders 3 and 4, double checking the HT leads on the coil pack showed that 3 & 4 were on the wrong terminals !

Swapped them back and the engine was running just fine with no mis-fires.

I have several cuts and bruises from doing the job ... bugger!

Next job is later on this afternoon, replacing the CATs, my neighbour has a garage and he is letting me use the ramps to do that one, I might do the autobox oil and filters while the exhaust is off.
