I was at a classic rally (with my stationary engine) recently & one of the blokes who sells bits has a metal landrover radiator grille. Question --How much do they sell for in o.k. condition? He's asking £50 for his which to me seems a BIT dear. He's had it for a few rallies now so i think it's well over the top. Am i right ?

Seems a bit dear a) cos it hasn't sold and b) lrseries do used grilles for £23 (plus vat probably)

Edit
Unless its series 1 which is rarer

Sorry to hear about your grille. I sometimes think the worlds full of thieving bastards. I have to remind myself that most people are decent honest folk. I hope the thieving git dies of something nasty.

I wanted an early 80" grill for my project but they fetch over £100 so I thought I would by some latter grills and make one but they fetch good money aswell so then I thought I would buy some mesh to make one but I can't find a vendor of flat wire woven mesh. Silly thing is back in the 1980's they were dirt cheap every body took them off and fitted a series 3 grill.

I,ve got a series 3 grille on my series 2 thats obviously what happened. Wondered why.

For some bizzare reason beyond my comprehension fitting a tacky piece of plastic to the front of a Landy was considered an 'upgrade'

You've answered my question on the price of the grille as well. I was planning on fitting a series 2A front with the wire mesh grille to my Series 3.

I found the series 2A front (minus the grille) out behind my work (no idea why it was there). It needs a bit of work to repair some rust holes but it is better than the one that's on there.

I actually think the metal wire grille looks alot better than the plastic thing.

A friend of mine is welding up the front panel. It was actually in quite good nick after shot blasting. Everything else but the bottom strip was solid.

I looked on ebay and all of the grilles that were on there are for the Series 2 with the lights on the front panel.

How easy is it to get the 2A grilles that were designed for when the lights had been moved to the wings? I would have thought these would be less common as the 2A wasn't made for that long.

The 2A maltese cross grilles go for £50-60 quid as they are rarer, and therefore harder to get hold of. I'm putting my 2A back to original with a razor edge bonnet and the wire grille because some numpty changed them for the deluxe bonnet and the plastic monstrosity

The later 2a with the full width grill I.e lights in wings can fetch £100 as they are quite sort after and not many about
