I am refering to the whiteish dis-coloured part that is left on the bumper and trim after you have polished and waxed it several times.
Currently i use AutoGlym polish and wax etc but to bring the trim back to black i been using AutoGlym vinyl and rubber care which brings it up lovely but only last a week or so and then the whitish appearance starts to creep back in.
Any suggestions !!!

Hi djaf . . . I know what ya mean, well Ive used this one for years so [no giggling] mix up clean half synthetic diesel oil with 50% white spirit [not turps] in a plastic bottle, give a good shake, and apply to bumpers with a rag , put a fair dollop on ,all the way round motor ,then go round with a clean rag and buff so as its not smeary, has never had any adverse effect ,cheap and better than anything on the market, some people use same method but using linseed oil instead [Ive not tried it]. . .please note that Ming will not be held responsible for any damage incurred using this method. . . Ming now sells all plastic parts for freelanders [joking]:cool:

Hi Ming,

I was going to suggest the linseed oil. Do it myself and it looks brandnew afterwards. Apply it with a rag on the whole surface, special rubbing on the infected parts, than with a dry cloth go over it to take the obsolete oil off and more or less polish it at the same time. I do all the grey plastic parts around the wheels and front and rear bumpers and also the black parts of the roofrails, outside mirrors and the middle pieces of the radiator grille. Good luck.

As my car is a 2001 (january 9th to be precise) I treated all the outside plastic (grey and black) with the linseed oil (very cheap to buy in comparison to the "specialised" products ...) and with almost nothing of oil I could do the whole car. (Even did the plastic sparewheel cover with it, I have the one with the hard moulded plastic shell with the green oval in the middle). And it looks impeccable, don't know how long it will last but seen the price and the only five mins. it takes no sweat. (not to worry to touch slightly the body as no solvents at all in it, just makes it a little greasy but on the Epsom green it's not noticed at all).

Hi Willo. . . Must give the linseed oil a try, spose ya could do the tyres as well,as long as ya don't get any on tread, the other thing i do is after washing motor,use crunched up black ink newspaper on der windows [slightly damp] can be used in or out,comes to a brill shine, try it. . .Ming will not be held responsible for any damaged glass after reading this thread, Ming now sells all glass parts for freelanders [joke]. . . :cool:
 
Hello Gentlemen.

Not much going on in the 90/110 neck of the woods so I thought I'd have a wander down here.

The first thing that springs to mind is that there isn't a problem without a cause, therefore if you remove the cause you remove the problem.

The answer is simple take a leaf from our book. Don't polish the bloody thing!!!. Just pressure wash it when you can't see out of the windows!!!!!!!!

i did this car cleaning thing for a liveing some time ago. so i know where you guys are comeing from, i like to keep mine looking brand new too.
mines black with gray bumpers, a real pain to keep clean, but here gos.
autoglym blue lable polish for dark met, turtel wax bright green bumper cleaner for all the plastic, except inside. son of a gun dash cleaner ( great stuff ) all of the above - put it on, wipe it off.
comes up like a new one.
 
I know I was taking the mickey earlier, but I've just been in Wilkos and they have aerosol tins of any colour bumper and plastic trim restorer for £1.99.
 
i'm with this on grunt except when my windscreen is too muddy i send my son out with a scooshy bottle and a cloth for the drivers side ,thats the only bit i use.. and this is me jag we're talking the landy will just have to wait for some rain
 
Slob. . . I wash my motor each time it go,s out [cant be to care-full] ,in fact i don't drive it if i can help it when its raining, cos it might get muddy. . . Ming :D
 
ah what you don't know is that it is my anti-theft system..i park my mud covered crud filled car next to your highly polished gleaming machine guess what one the theives take??
