Ive got a 200tdi defender, and hear so many at events that sounds really good. Im about to get a new exhaust from longlife, and i had one put on a td5 90 and didnt make the difference in noise that i wanted. With my 200tdi being older just wondered on the legalities of silencers and what not, and any advice on how i can make it sound good.

Mine is like a petrol engine, you can hardly hear it. Its done only 90,000 miles. Changed the oil and its runs like a dream. Damn its so quite.

Depends if you want a permenant feature or not really. A 200tdi doesnt have a cat convertor so as far as im aware there is no legalities regarding emiisions and its not overly loud so dont think there is any for noise. For a permenant feature you could put a straight pipe in,(available on ebay for about £50) replacing the centre 2 silencers and then maybe have a side exit making shorter therefore louder :). Or as ive done with my 200tdi just unbolt the exhaust from the down pipe and stick a nut or two between the meeting faces and then tighten it back up so it doesnt rattle, leaving a gap betwenn the down pipe and exhaust and it sounds a dream. The reason why ive done this is so, if i want to put it back on for a long jorney etc its just a 2 minute job to make it quiet again!! When i did it i was worried it would get a bit fumey in the cab but it is ok, even sat in traffic. Hope this helps mate.:)
