If you can't hold the hoses then the temp is way above 82 degs. I rekon you'll find yer rad is the most likely fault. You'll probably find that a new rad or a recore of your current one will sort the issue out. My rad on my old 110 V8 looked ok on the outside and all the fins were ok but it was fecked. One re-core later and all was ok..

i did spend over 2 hrs cleaning the rad front and back and you can actually see thru it..its an allisport rad and housing

Have you tried squeezing the hoses hard while revving the engine? You should feel the hoses expanding in your hand if the waterpump is fuctioning properly.

havent tried that, but the two pipes at the top left of the rad as you look from the front if you remove the brass bung you can see water flowing into the rate at quite a speed if thats an indication of pump working?

i just priced up an allisport rad feckinell over £500:eek:

its this one i have

where are you fans mounted? Behind or in front of the rad? Are they suckers or blowers?

they are mounted behind the rad in a purpose made removeable alli housing as part of the rad and suck air thru i know the rad, alli header and fans and an allisport fuel tank cost £2000 inc fitting

this was the back of the rad when i removed the rear panel

I'm not surprised that it had/has overheating probs when the rad was that badly blocked.:eek::eek:

How far was it driven like it?
only from the plains to my gaff and i kept the temp gauge of the red with the fans

how hot did it run without the stat?

this is the strange thing i will try and run thru the build up to this

using original temp gauge in the dash with no stat fitted(although i didnt know there was no stat in it)

the gauge would go up but you could put fans on and see the temp drop quite a lot on the gauge,it would take a while to get hot again before you had to put fand back on

i then put a stat in,and a new temp sender after the rad clean, the temp gauge goes up to the red after 5 mins of idle..

so i purchased the aftermarket gauge and sender and it brings us upto date on the new problems

i also havent driven offroad since new gauge and rad clean

hth

I'm guessing that the problem has been ongoing for a while if the stat had been removed.

What was the temp showing before you fitted the new sender?

before the day out when the salisbury plain mud clogged up the rad the temp seemed a lot more stable(with no stat in) and didnt have to use the fans constant

it was after that i went thru the replacement process

it seems since ive replaced sender/gauge cleaned rad put in new thermostat and cleaned rad, flushed and back flushed system cleaned out header tank

it all seems to be worse if not better:mad:

Did you remove the rad from the vehicle to clean it or just hose it while fitted?

Have you checked for any hot or cold areas on the surface of the rad?

You may have to take the fans/cowling off the rad to do this. DO NOT POKE YOUR FINGERS BETWEEN THE FANS UNLESS THEY ARE UNPLUGGED AND WITH THE FUSE REMOVED
