Hello all - after a 6 week break, went to start my TD5 90. Battery was flat..re-charged and it's holding its volts OK. Lady still would not start - repeat of the old 'temp gauge to max, no glowplug or ECU light' issue despite having the injector end of the loom replaced 9 months ago. Cleaned the red ECU plug (again...how long does the oil keep running???) and remade the ECU earth...Landy started and ran fine so all good. Cleared the fault history on Evo and took went for a drive - after which there are the usual Aircon and Autobox faults (Landy does not have aircon & is manual!) but there is also 'GearBox/ABS Output Drive Open' fault logged. I have seen it mentioned in a number of other posts regarding ECU codes, but not to the point of resolution - any ideas? Anyway, while driving today it seems to have developed a fairly loud creaking from the drivers footwell (thought it was my left knee to begin with but alas not) - happens when the clutch pedal is depressed and released, when large steering movements are required...and to some extent over bumps. However, before I strip the lower dash, insulation etc I thought I'd check with the 'Zone for any pointers - there's a ton of posts regarding squeaking clutch pedals but I can't find anything relating to the broader issue. Thanks in advance!

Mine sometimes creaks from the steering column if I accidentally bump the plastic column surround. This causes the foam inside and, maybe, the plastic to rub and make a loud noise. If you're lucky, it might just be that.

Its a 20 year old badly built 4x4 its going to creak :p

Often the clutch spring/pedal. Give it some lube.

As for those codes dont worry about them. Just ghost codes and meaningless

Yes, I get the gearbox ABS code, but I put that down to not having ABS on mine. It's just a generic ECU and program so it's got stuff for all sorts of accessories that not every model has.

I get a squeak from the steering column which is just the plastic column surround rubbing on the back of the steering wheel. Several years ago I had some problems with the bearings in the steering column, but they actually felt rough and lumpy. You don't seem to be able to get the bearings separately, so I had to replace the whole column assembly. The pedal pivots sometimes squeak, but they're hard to get at to lubricate so it's not surprising really. I don't think I've ever greased or oiled mine in 130,000 miles so it's unlikely to be serious.

Thank you all - informative and helpful (and reassuring) as always! Although I have owned the Landy for 18 months or so - between lockdown and some other issues, I have not been able to use it much so am still getting to know its foibles!

…..

…and there will be a lot of them, many will be frustrating and make no sense but will be easily fixed with application of patience, WD40, a hammer or money…
