Looks comfy, yes I have a 90 and 110 and both are about ready to get some upgrades and service done, respray and some bits and bobs.. Both are in great shape for their ages, hence getting former MOD ones. The 90 is out of Cyprus and was immaculate, just small amounts of surface rust, but no real damage, only damage to the window sills from the weather and sand.

Looks great. Thinking of doing it myself. Hell I might actually use my lathe to make some very posh inserts for the cupholders. Have used penholder cup things before ( from Staples).

Looks good. One bad point though. I would have painted the inside of the cup holders black. I am nitpicking though.

The foam inside the cup holders is actually only intended as a temporary measure, I agree the white foam doesn't quite fit with the rest of the box. The plan is to find some PVC piping of the right diameter and use this to line the cup holders.

Still outstanding job, I can't draw a circle if my life depended on it or build something like that, but I can cut you open and stick tubes in you!! Not mechanically inclined, but anatomy inclined...

I shall be making one in steel shortly (If I get the time) will post it up on here If I does.

Hi LandyJD, do you have any pictures of how you edged the vinyl between the vertical and horizontal surfaces? I'm halfway through building something similar myself, because a standard one won't fit where I need it, following my auto conversion. I've built the box and I've got the vinyl, I'm confident I can get as far as covering it all but not sure how to finish the edges!

You may find (don’t ask how I know) that when vinyl is glued into place with open joints, few glues known to man keep the stuff down for very long. Upholsterers will always spend a great deal of effort designing a covering to wrap round something so ten million staples can be fired into a hidden side. There is definitely a reason for this.
Also if you invest in a yard or two of 5mm scrim foam (it’s the one with a nylon cloth attached) and cover with that first it hides all the joints and folds. Not to mention it gives a nice soft feel to the finished article without making it too scatter cushionesque.

If I may make a suggestion and you can’t cover in one piece due to shape, then a more permanent solution to avoid stitching like a professional trimmer would, may be to cover each piece of the box individually (wrapping round the edges) before assembly. You can trim and line the box with EVA foam to hide the scrap.

Not got many photos of mine but I used pull out cup holders to simplify the shape and give me half a chance of stapling the vinyl into place.

That looks bomber. Nice job, I love a bit of ‘why should I just buy, let’s make’ diy

The great thing about DIY is your not making to a price. If one of these has to retail at 100 pounds then the manufacturer can only spend 20 quid on materials, at a push. Otherwise the they cant make a profit, the wholesaler can’t add on a lump nor can the retailer, agent, courier, Uncle Tom Cobbly..................

Nearly everything I buy I end up
Modifying or not being completely happy with, making yourself means you can tweak designs to suit you specifically rather than mass market compromise :)

Bob, that's a great plan, but......I glued the panels together as I built it :( Should have thought ahead really. I saw a type of trim online which hides staples but it's only available in America and the postage alone is far more than the box cost me to make!

I don't really want to build it again but I guess it's an option if I can't get a decent finish.
