Evening,

I was just stood outside earlier on and a Toyota Hilux drove past me. That's not a bad looking little pickup I thought, and now I can't seem to stop myself from looking at them on Autotrader. Please can someone help me out... I think this calls for someone's famous psychotherapy.

hilux are good looking pick-ups but dont get one. we use them for work. they are good for carting stuff around but the single cab is terrible. no space for nothing. it also fish tails all over the place, esp roundabouts. what they going for on AT? fairly reliable motors, not sure what parts are like. id buy a commercial one cheap if your going down that road.

A friend of mine has had 2 of these and managed to put 1 on its side after hitting the smallest patch of ice you have ever seen ..and believe me he wasnt going fast.
The second one he had looked nice though

Its because the back end is so light, theres nothing holding it too the road unless its loaded up.

Don't buy one - it'll be the worst thing you ever do!!!!

I had one (a 93 K reg but it was mint and only had 60,000 on it when I bough it) and in the 18 months I had it blew the head gasket, dropped a big end soon after and then 20,000 miles after fitting another engine (2.4td this time) it cracked it's head. All that by the time it had got to 90,000 miles. Terrible on fuel, very slow and no power. Was comfy though.

Nice looking truck but not a patch on a landy.

alright I'll take you word for it! Was the first engine or the 2.4 Any quicker than a 2.5 N/A do you reckon?

the 2.4 n/a was terrible, the 2.4td was o.k but not as reliable.

2.5 n/a landrover seem to have more grunt than the hilux but hilux was geared better for road work (had 80 out of it once!).

Thanks again! I do love my n/a, but it just feels really slow sometimes! When you say poor fuel consumption, are we talking less than 28mpg?

yer missing the real important issue here.. if yer get a slitty yer wint be welcome in LZ. No amount of MPG,MPH, or months of trouble free motoring can make up fer that

Them **** off road me m8 got his slitty stuck this w/end and i just went right past him in my disco only a little muddy track (he got a L200):)

I had an 02 D4d hilux double cab with all the extras, leather, aircon, chrome this and that, black with silver arches and a nice looking snugtop...27mpg thrashing the nuts off it everywhere..... ****E compared with the 2001 disco es I now have.
Got it from new ex belgium (UK type approved though) but bouncy as fook, **** handling especially coming off roundabouts and taking sharp turns. I had the back wheels off the ground either side a couple of times. Ok its great for a builder who wants to cart his **** around in some sort of style but as a daily driver for joe public, definately a no no. My German Shepherd really appreciated it when we got the disco, no more being freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer in the back, and no more chucking his lot up when we went on a slightly bumpy road...If I hadnt got shot, I wouldnt have had the dubious pleasure of being able to view the thoughts of some proper weirdo's on ere.
Definately LR converted now (even got a 72 S3 too now)

A freinds father has recently bought a k plate surf 2.4td which to be fair is almost mint but theres no way i'd get rid of my classic for one.

I bought it new in 1995, series 3 never let me down. Does a little more mpg than me Defender and it's a workhorse. ain't got no turbo so I holds up the traffic some times when I'm towing, so i've got to stick me finger up now and then Had a couple of wimmin in the back, not at the same time and I did'nt see them again. any questions? before I haves me cocoa:mad:

Nope, no questions, but that's a nice one Paul! Good colour, like the back as well :)
