Hi all, I live on Fuerteventura.....used to live in Evesham, worcs., and then Scotland.
Just about to go and look at a 79 Santana 109.....

Used to run a 76 ser3, RR classic and most recently a Defender 110 Puma which I couldn't register in the Canaries as it was a commercial....

If the 109 is a goer I might do a photo series about it.

On a side note Im heading there in a few weeks for a winter jolly, do you know anywhere that rents battered 4x4s to tourists?
 
Every car here is battered!......can't think offhand but I'll make some enquiries, where about you staying

Caleta de Fuste around that area I think, would be good if you could have an ask about, cheers bud.

want to get out and have an explore without worrying about damaging a dinky little hire car, much rather have an old grotter that i can throw the wife and kids in for a few days exploring.

Enjoy it there,can be a tad on the windy side at times,but plenty of places for a beer etc.

Its hovering around -20 here most days at the moment so a bit of winter sun with a some wind is still going to feel warm :)

No problem,when you do find a vehicle to use,have a trip up to Corralejo,nice area,and the sand dunes before you get there,are amazing,could be a good place to take the 4x4,if you get one.

There's a company in Corralejo which do dune buggy tours round the north coast, quite good. I live up on the north coast and it's ideal for a bit of off road, round to El Cotillo from Corralejo then down the west coast where there are loads of totally empty beaches, check out Tindaya, La Mujer, Esquinzo beaches.

Don't take your hire car onto the sand dunes at Corralejo, it's a protected area and the old bill love to fine the unwary.

From Caleta, a trip down south to Jandia then down to Cofete is spectacular.

In fact, there are quite a few, surf schools use 110s mostly TD5s and there's a great selection of unrusty series Santana's...I've just bought another one from Tenerife, off to get it Friday. One of the joys of this climate is lack of rusting. Sun causes a fair bit of paint oxidation though. Strange thing is, there's no Landy to be hired anywhere that I know of. Just those Other Things, the name of which I will not mention again....
 
I think the lack of landys for hire might be a cost,maintanance thing, we love ours, they just run a business, shame realy, must be some great rides out there.
 
In fact, parts are easy to get, there's a dealer in FV and in GC and Tenerife, even series parts are pretty easy to get. I think it's more that the market has been historically, at least, flooded by tough (non electronic) jap motors, Nissan Patrol etc and Toyota are prevalent. Also, most folk who want a 4x4 are farmers and so choose a generic pickup over a landy. There are some fab routes here, where you can off-road all day totally undisturbed, and have a beach to yourself for an overnight BBQ!
 
Yes, re your P38, there's a cracker for sale in the mainland, but the problem here is that no one could read the faults and fix them, even so, I did think about it. Being so isolated, mechanical is the way to go. A lot of good rust free rangers on the mainland, good prices if you don't mind a left hooker
 
Quite agree, keep it simples. Hows it for parts, perhaps LZ visitors can bring you some small, light weight bits. Mite cost you a pint.
