Hi y'all!

Originally from the Midwest (Indiana) where I had a '96 Dicso 2 V8. Been in Aberdeenshire for 2 years now and picked up an '03 Freelander Td4. My old man's an enthusiast but currently I'm just a relatively ignorant dude with a soft spot for Land Rovers.

As such, and in addition to saying hey, I would like to express my interest in understanding the mechanics of my new turbo diesel. Where I come from diesel engines are usually only found in trucks (lorries). Can anyone point me to some good reading material which illuminates this specific motor for the aspiring tinkerer? Other than the Hayne's manual, which I have already. Much appreciated!

From Indiana and driving a gay lander..........:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi and:welcome:

:welcome::nopics: Haynes manual is a good read either that or search the gay-lander section for known issues with a TD4. Indiana and a gaylander  Well they ain't all bad but a little small! Enjoy having an LR and getting oily under the hood!

yeah I bet!

came to Aberdeen to help keep all those non-gaylanders running on good fuel. And as for all the gaylander comments, don't knock it if you've not tried it! ;) great fuel economy

Oh they chevy is a dream I want one if I get my visa for the states, Gaylanders are great driven one a few times but as they say,

What has a gaylander, A moped and a fat chick got in common? they are great fun to ride but you don't want ya mates to catch ya!

Sorry to prove you wrong but a chevy silverado is its own truck on its 3rd gen with the 2014 silverado LTZ Z71 best truck in its class. Chevy predict 70% of the buyers will buy the mid range 5.3 V8. His had the 6.3 small block though. I dont know any-one who would buy the baby ass 4.3v6. The 5.3 Does 22 mpg highway and 16mpg in town beating fords ecoboost by 1mpg thanks to the V4 mode although when it is in V4 mode it does feel a little sluggish though. I must say the lane stray system is cool. I dont just know there is a chevy silverado if I get my visa Im buying going to be buying one.

how about the v8 diesel in them. There are 1500,2500,and 3500 silverados models, so 3 there, then 2 wheel drive and 4x4. then there are several wheel bases in each, then there is the 2 door, extended cab, and crew cabs(4 door) then there is the one with 4 wheels and the dually (6 wheels) in the silverado model so several different models/vehicles available.

So there is a chevy silverado. Silverado is the model not the trim level.

No his is a 2004 model. But yes I want the 2014 one, If it all goes ahead without a single set back (yeah right) I wont be living in Georgia till early 2015 anyway. Shame is I really dont want to spend more than 30K so I would be hella lucky to find a z71 at year old for that. So will most likely be a 2004 model. But chances are it will closer to the end if not 2016 so I might end up with a 2014. Theres a really hot sales rep at my mates local chevy dealer I going to see when I get out there. She is friends with my mates wife and has a massive weakness for the english accent I think my nan will be so proud if she knew those horrid sunday etiquet classes proved useful

Good mates work want to leave uk. 30k us $. The chevy makes me weak at the knees and has alot of toys the raptor doesnt as well as the raptor being more flashy it will be a work truck aswell so the bigger bed option with the crew cab is needed. Also Im a chevy man although the raptor is one of the only fords I drive.

Chevy!!!
Because some-one needs to tow the dumbass in the ford out the way.
