Sitting in La Rascasse bar in Monaco, Carlsberg €3 a pint. Watching the pretty girls, Ferraris, Yachts and getting a suntan. Best of all being paid for it.

Land Rover shows off new Defender ‘concept’ - FT.com

You made such an effort with the cage, it will almost be a waste if you don't roll your landy... :D

I assure you it will get rolled!!

CCV'ing its almost a certainty. There was talk of having a go at comp aswell. Well maybe a local one!

Comp the saying is: First Race, First corner, First roll over!

The 80 inch on cart springs and a salisbury rear axle is about as wrong as you can get for comp safari racing!

Lol!

I really hope that new defender concept is total BS.

If it is for real I think after the initial flurry of orders from the yeehaaas of the world. It will be the death of landrover starting from the point at which they no longer manufacture the best off road car in production and started making fashion statements.

The trouble with fashion is that what is "in" this year might be total crap the next year!

Range rover and Discovery are good luxury road cars with winter driving capability. I dont think I need mention the freelander here! Currently Landrover sell these luxury vehicles BECAUSE they produce the defender with awsome off road ability as standard.

Once you lose the underlying reason for existing a marque will live and die just like rover, TVR and other british cars of the past.

Does anyone at landrover know why they have a reputation for off road vehicles or are they lost in some fantasy world created by BMW and Ford??

I think you hit the nail on the head, the fact that the defender concept artwork has alloy wheels and low profile tyres, kind of shows they are clueless...

I guess this is more an exercise in filling a gap in the plastic yuppie car buying market, than actually making a true defender replacement..

After all how would you replace a defender ? Pretty much leave it as it is... Maybe do something clever with the body panels, maybe use a composite plastic that never rots and is strong enough to survive a roll over... And maybe a clever engine that meets emmisons laws without stupid electronics... That's all they need to do...

Land Rover will be loosing customers when they do things like this as well. One of the diesel Discovery 4 hire vehicles at work had petrol put in by mistake. The guy that had it on hire agreed to pay to have it sorted thinking the bill would be a few hundred pounds, bill came in today from the local Land Rover dealers, £6900. they claim that it takes 22 hours to remove the fuel, now going to Trading Standards.
