Hey Kris... it;s the chalk hill... you'll find it on the A505 on the left as you go north out of dunstable. Good pub... good food... and I suspect a particularly attractive waitress (judging from others comments!)

Got started fitting my new springs, today. After all the advice you guys gave me at the pub meet, the darn thing has one-ton shackles on it anyway so it seemed a bit pointless to get the extended shackles.

I went for the 4 paras and es3000's from MM-4x4 and got a pretty good deal after spending some more money on top of that.

Got around to start fitting them today, nearside rear is nearly off but the front hanger bolt is seized inside the bush, no amount of WD40, blowtorch and mallet could cure the problem so I'm going to go down to the welding shop tomorrow and get a couple of 1mm cutting discs for my grinder and cut the head and tail off the bolt, between the spring and chassis. Then lever the ends off with a pry-bar.

Any other ideas before I commit to this?? Thanks in advance

As many of you know I recently bought an astra estate from Andy... Very fine motor and a bargain it has to be said!

I want to fit another seat in the rear (boot) area so that I can collect older child from school. I am concerned, however , that I have no insight into how to do this safely or whether the seat will be legal once installed.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of after market addition?

br careful where you drill holes cos the fuel tank. Don't weld anything unless your 100% confident the welds are perrrfect. As for fitting a seat I wouldn't bother it will take a day to do it propperly and that day you could spend fixin the disco and you have 7 seats again.

If your hell bent on doing it I May have an old fiesta seat that was fitted to a range rover rear floor if its still where I think it is. but its up to you to check it over and install as its not been used for like 8 years. And the lagals and seat belt mounts etc will need investigation.

I don't think you want to go there. If you don't notify your Insurers you invalidate your policy. If you declare it they will say it is a modified motor and will either decline to cover it or ask for an increase in premium and they might also ask for a engineers report because of the nature of the modification. Not worth the hassle if you ask me; sorry mate.

I've heard that angle grinder and burning out the bushes is quite often the only way to get the old ones out. Plenty of copper slip when you re-assemble.
I think the springs are left/right handed too, to allow for the weight of fuel tank/driver, so make sure you fit them on the right side, or it'll end up leaning to one side.

depending on what fuel tanks you have that is true above. I would think your tank in at the back end centrally mounted tho being a station wagon 109.

Drivers side usually has the taller springs when fitting new std items but that is not always true with parrabollics tho.
 
yeah just got it back today from AJD, new oils all round, output seal and had to replace the handbrake thingy me bob as it was really stuck. i've also cut the bottom of me towbar down. now thinking of painint the rear inside with rubber anti slip paint.
 
hopefully im going to get the body of my disco as it seems to be taking me forever to get out there and do it.

did you get your 90 sorted mate?

Spyderman and Kev I kinda thought that was going to be the case - guess that's an idea for the scrap heap then... back to the V8 when we want a family day out! lol
 
Just seen the weather forecast for tomorrow, ****ing down. weekend looks nice. Could be some mud about. laning might be even more tempting.
 
I'm thinking of fitting a slightly bigger engine to my Series III. I've found this, do you think it would fit? It's even painted green. I think it would give me a bit more grunt up the hills.
