Kai's just read the last few posts and says that he thinks it has to be one of two problems. Either the belt is way too tight, causing rapid wear, or a pulley/tensioner is suffering from bearing wear and starting to drag.

Having said that he's only 10 so what does he know? (I happen to know he cheated and spent an hour reading through other forums and manuals first!)

hha its a fair old shout because thats exactly what i thought it would be, but the pulleys seem rotate freely.

had no time yesterday in the end, im off in search of a road car to buy :eek: but will check it out this afternoon
 
FFS everytime i go to work on it something else comes up! im never gonna bloody get round to checking it out!

symptoms of a seized water pump? surely it would overheat and be kinda apparent there was an issue

one thing that did spring to mind now i think of it is 3rd, 4th and 5th gear make a strange noise.

looks like she is being retired from off roading at just the right time - or just the wrong time depending on how you look at it
 
im gonna say the noise is due to a stunning amount of diff fluid i have found on my drive. feck. tlc for the next few weeks, and then retirement, hope she is thankful for it!

I know what is wrong with your landy, you made it a she, therefore she will always be tempramental, unreasonable, and you can't cant count on her rewarding your good behaviour, because if is that time of the month, she is just gonna break down for no reason. :D

Now I called mine George (Of the Jungle), and he never breaks down :D

Lots of older peeps drive cars that yungsters can only dream of - thats coz they can afford the insurance ;)

not ageist in the slightest! i have a friend in belize that drives a dodge charger with lambo doors and an 8.0 litre v10 out of a viper - and he is 68.

its jsut that the vast majority of elderly individuals i am certain do not look at vehicles that are capable of a sub 7 second 0 - 60 time, and a top speed in excess of 140 - nor would i imagine many elderly individuals care much for race styling, stiff suspension and the likes

always exceptions though i guess:p

Petrol head, Carpy are you taking the ****? 300tdi 110 probably the slowest lumbering LR it ever made that year, 2.25 diesel series what BHP was that when it left the factory new? and now its used mabe putting out 40 BHP on a good day.

So you are seeking a fast road car don't blame you, mabe the roar of a tuned V8.

A good friend of mine got a megabusa westfield super charged first one in cointry and setup for racing and he used it instead of his peugeot in summer his insurance was 470 quid a year not bad for a 19 year old and it was 0-100mph and then braking to a stop in less than 11 seconds. 0-60 was silly like 4 seconds. He ****ed off a group at santapod last time he was there, nice lookin car too no good for carrying landy bits in tho.

hahah yes true true, but you didnt see the car i had before this did you/ i dont think many form here did. besides isnt the term petrol head for people that are generally interested in cars and vehicles - im sure landy enthusiasts could be called petrol heads even if it is most often not a very accurate descriptive term!

my old neighbour has a westfield with a 1.8 we built a few years back, i reckon thats some of that started all this for me - incidentally he had a series II before that so maybe it was that and the farm! bloody crazy vehicle but awesome fun!

no i have been thinking, for me what makes more sense is to get me a LPG converted rangey V8. i need a V8 for the series in the long run, and i only really need a car temporarily. so get me a rangey with LPG for the wales - london route and all the other motorway miles i do. its still a landy, its got the engine i will need in the near future so when i need it the rangey just gets cannibalised - if i got the heart for it. and for the short term i get cheap V8 thrills :D

EDIT - oh and i will have you know my 110 is actually not all that sluggish - compared to other TDI and turbo landys i have been in this sucker really picks up! max said something like bloody hell thats some acceleration" when he was in it! and the series is bloody quick taking off as well, first gear is a stonker!!! yea over 20mph and it all goes outstandingly sedate, but those first 20mph - phhwwwoooaaarrr!!

TBH Ive not seen a good LPG kit that works faultlessly on any LR, I have seen approx 40 and none have been briilliant. Your probably better to find a Good condition EFI that will return ok MPG than somone that hasnt maintained the V8 properly and it returns poor MPG then bunged on an LPG kit cos they can't afford to put in the extra fuel a month to run a motor. Would that person spend £1800-£2000 to get LPG fitted and sorted out properly? Probably not IMO. There are loads of LPG kitted RR that have been installed well but not maintained. I guess i'm just a bit of an old moaner but to date Ive not seen a well setup LPG kit. Most blow AFM every 6 months.
 
i found one with the LPG kit supplied and fitted by a main dealer with receipts proving cost of 3k supposedly - otherwise i would agree but that seems ok!

then again, autogas does seem a bit of hassle, maybe a straight EFI would be a better bet
