I know what you mean, i see a bit of cheating going on as well. It's all for fun, but the people that don't do it properly, havn't really proved that they are able to complete the challange.

A few pictures from yesterday.

Kris,

Looks like it was a good one. I would have gone, but my front brakes were shot. i would have destroyed the Drums, let alone not being able to stop, if I'd have gone. Anytime you like now, please count me in.

Hi all, looking for some advice and help if I may

I am going to purchase diff guards in January and a tow strap as I already have jate rings. Do I need a different type of guard for the front and rear as some places seem to describe their diff guards as "front only" and is a strap just a strap or should I look out for anything in particular?

Also, would anyone be able to help me fit the jate rings as it seems to involve some cutting and stuff? I am more than happy to get lunch or give you a few quid.

Once I have these sorted then I will be able to get out laning again and be a little less of a potential liability :)

Disco01, Disco II requires different Diff Guards to older Landys. you can fit a simple one like this that protects the crown wheel casing onlyhttp://www.paddockspares.com/pp/OFF_ROAD/Protection/Diff_Guard_-_Zintex_Coated_-_Discovery_2.html
Or fit something that works as a rock slider too, like this for the front
Southdown 4 x 4 Front Axle Guards
For the rear either fit the simple type or something like this
Southdown 4 x 4 Rear Axle Guards

Fitting Jate rings to the front of your Disco is difficult because of the Bumper mounding being so low. If you're going to be doing any type of serious off-road action, you'll probably lose the front spoiler anyway. Worth asking the question either on here or speak to Southdown/Mantec/Rebel as to what can be done if anything to give you front recovery points, without losing the lower bumper moulding.
Better to get a decent tow rope as first choice, saying that I'm yet to find one. I use one of these, it has a small amount of stretch to it. Do not buy a Kinetic Rope.
PM644 Pro Comp Recovery Strap. 3in x 30foot. 30,000lb rating.

I don't mind giving you a hand fitting stuff.

Spyderman, thanks for the advice, as always it is very much appreciated.

I guess too much protection is better than too little so I'll probably go with the guards that double as skid plates/rock sliders as well and regarding the front bumper I can see this is going to require some more thought!

I'll hold you to that offer of help !

All done. I have Brakes again, Gearbox topped up, Axle seal isn't terrible so that can wait.:D

I'm up for some Laning now. Where & When?

Slab common near Bordon Hampshire on the 4th Jan. Date:4 Jan 2009Text:Hi all,

Cross posting this for a mate:

I am a member of Jeepclub.co.uk and we are holding an off road day at Slab common near Bordon Hampshire on the 4th Jan.

This is an MOD site where they test tanks.

As the MOD are being H&S mentalists its going to cost the club a fortune unless we get a load of attendees so it has been thrown open to all makes of 4x4 , its £30 per vehicle and details can be found at
http://www.jeepclub.co.uk/event.cfm?e=538 in the events section.

Oh dear I fear this could be some fun Jeep vs Landrover rivalry
