OK Saturday, will start around Datchworth, then head up north east from there, finishing up doing the fords at Standon & Furneaux Pelham.
Anybody who doesn't fancy or can't do the fords, no problem, they don't take long to do and I'm sure rides can be sorted.
PM's just about to go out for meeting place. Anybody who wants to come and hasn't got a PM soon let me know.

What!?! Can't believe I couldn't make it! ...I hope you didn't miss Pigs Dyke in Datchworth, where I have been stuck a few times!! ;)

and fur those that dont like to :search: - here it is in full..

'Please do not confuse these shots with canal holiday brochures. The weather was poor and the water had a kind of ghostly mist rising from it at approx 4.30 pm yesterday.

I can clearly remember crewing on a rally with student friends from Chelsea College in the late sixties. It rained all night and we went through ford after ford. I also remember going through one ford with water sloshing through the car and seeing dimly out of the side window a brick wall. This must have been the one because through the undergrowth the river is contained within a channel of brick walls. Last year the water was very clear and I could see minnows swimming around in the shallows.

Seriously folks this is 4 x 4 country until I can conquer it in the Dellow with assistance on hand and prove otherwise. From memory,(12 months ago) the bottom is smooth and sandy.'

“I have been to this ford on a few occasions now – the first time was in February 2004 – I would not recommended attempting this ford after heavy rains without a snorkel as the water can be very high. The last time I drove it was in June 2004 – although deep the ford was much less scary. It is wet all year as it is part of the river Rib. There is nearly always an audience and the ford is fun – recommend that it is taken at a sensible speed and not on a “hell for leather” approach.

It has a nice easy approach from either end – with a gentle slope. I highly recommend a quick walk along the bank to survey the river bed – water is normal lovely and clear – as the river has caused very deep patches near the footpath. You wouldn’t want to drop in one of those unintentionally. Stick near to the trees and the water remains about 2 feet or so deep – in the summer.

The ford itself is quite long and well worth a visit.”

'The trick is to keep all the way to the right going south or left going north ( under the trees ) if this is done the water os 1.5 foot deep if you go the other side then 2.5 foot deep smooth gravel bottom 60 yds long.'

Just been out to explore a byway or two over the tottenhoe knoll. These lanes are great! What a pity they are sporting permanent TROs

Looks like I missed a good day out yesterday, never mind, I'm sure we'll get out and about again really soon. Will no doubt see most of you on Wednesday at pub meet.

Keep an eye on that 9 year old if it is the young fella in a tricked up rangie. He is very good but I have seen a couple of guys come a cropper when the young lad applieda little too much gusto!

Of course it could be another 9 year old entirely and I mat be doing him a disservice!

Actually phoned you a while ago just to see how it went over there today... really pleased you had a good days pluggin! You're right it is an awesome site.

He did OK. I think people going in there on road tyres is much more dangerous than the littleun.

There was a Shogun on road tyres that slid sideways down the bank at the rear of the site and the guy just couldnt stop it. He had his family in the motor and was really lucky not to roll over!:(

Another chap with all 7 seats loaded in a V8 disco on road tyres just sat in the mud going nowhere. I got involved in recovering him and he just sat there like it was his god given right to be recovered  Not even a little thank you either

If 1 of the idiots with road tyres slid into me I would not have been very happy.:fighting:

Good site but seems to be no rules and anything goes. Just hope nobody gets hurt over there before the owner decides to get marshalls and puts a few rules in place.
