where do you buy your paint? locally? and what prep will you do?

Ive been cleaning my rear radius arms and painting, i used aqua steel rust convertor and painted with eastwood rust encapsulator! its bloody expensive like! Need to find a cheaper option! rustolium or similar..

Why? You seem to have motivation and a plan usually that leads to good things

Yep I've got motivation because it's what I love doing.
I suppose it's a bigger project than usual, Plus worrying about the unknown, Which is me all over to be honest.
I worry over things that are nothing day in day out so this is no different :(

Got a price in mind Big-A?;)

Erm, Not sure. The market is that varied it's hard to say.
I'd say money invested back but not sure if that'd happen. I'll study the market more when the time comes I suppose.
Won't be for sale until this is done anyway, Which could be a bloody long time

Ebay mainly, Rustoleum combicolour is what I have used on my axles etc on my other build. It seems pretty good stuff, But only time will tell.

Thanks Aaron, the missus has given me the thumbs-up to go Defender shopping so I thought I would ask to see if yours would come up for sale anytime soon.

Good luck with it when it does go to press - it will fly off the shelf I'm sure;)

Well not a lot done today, Cleaned front axle casing up, Then had a bit of a sort out. Trying to find things to sell.
(my problem is I want to keep everything  Think I may have a hoarding problem )

Money is disappearing fast at the moment. Want to buy to many things and keep spending savings, Which isn't ideal.

Just wants a rust convertor of some sort then painting. (which I'm waiting for)

That's good cleaning! :)
Are you not going straight Rustoleum this time?
I did one straight Rustoleum the other I used AquaSteel rust inhibitor first and then Rustoleum on top.

Could be better mate, But I'd be there hours
I plan on doing the same as you. One with a rust convertor one without.
I'd like to see if there is any difference, As it'd be nice to know for future builds :)

Tremendous, we'll be able to compare experiments :)

Going to see what engine looks like cleaned before I finally decide to paint it. Ed China suggested keeping it to a minimum on the engine. I think gloss black would look naff, would have to be matt I reckon.

I used gloss black rustoleum, But only because it's what I had.
But once all the ancillaries were put back on you couldn't tell.

But if you've got some matt/satin black then use that :)

Well paint turned up today, So first job was paint the axle.
Was raining on and off so did it in the shed and their isn't a lot of room :(

aaron i know you've answered this question many times but what are you using to do up your axles?

Ive got a rear 200tdi one to put on my 90 and i wanna know exactly what to order to do it. Im gonna attack it with a wire brush on my drill soon then hit it with whatever i need to use next..

First thing I do is attack any crud build up in the corners with a hammer and chisel/scraper. If it's really oily you might want to try cleaning it up a little before attacking it with a grinder. I use cheapo blue roll, Use a scraper to get the worst of then brake cleaner to clean it up more. You wont get it perfect but the wire wheel/brush will.

Then attack it with a wire wheel on the grinder. Does a better job then a drill. But where you can't use the grinder use the drill.
Then use a wire brush where you cant get the drill.

Give it a good wipe with brake cleaner/thinners and go over it again as you will have missed bits. Wipe down again.

Now at this point you could use a rust convertor. I never on my last project.
So I just painted them with rustoleum combi colour.

Hope that helps, Or ask away again and I'll try and help.

Well that part was easy enough to get apart... I will do the super winch tomorrow after work.

Do you need me to take the motor apart?
