Hi am new to landrovers picked up our 99 1.8 xei freelander last week but have problems with the alarm goes off randomly but it seams if i leave the boot window down 2"or so and the passager window down a inch or so it dont  seams to go off is there any reason y this might b any thoughts would b gr8 locking door just with key in door still sets alarm as well as key fob cant seam to look car with out setting alarm

If you lock with the fob it should arm both interior motion (volume sensing as handbook calls it) and perimeter alarm (doors) locking with the key (turning the key only once) activates the perimeter alarm only - are your interior lights working properly, coming on and going off as you open and close the doors?

lights come on when unlocking etc as should b hang on boot light dont work now thinking about it would that make any diff ??

No the bulb has probably just blown.

Mine does this every now and then. Lock it with the key and it'll bypass the interior sensor.

Mine is also prone to radio interference from taxis and sounds the alarm.

If your alarm is going off when your locking with the key and with the fob , atleast it eliminated the volumetric.

Next i would try and check the next easiest.

You can check your bonnet switch easily enough as its just a pin switch iirc.

The other sensor common for setting off alarms on hardback freelanders is the hardback tamper sensor. I think its located half way down the hardback's diagonal where it meets with the roof on the o/s. try giving it a bang there when alarmed to see if the alarm goes off. This sensor is also just a pin switch.

i had a simular thing with just one taxi and I stopped him lucky he could speak English I told him that he kept on setting my alarm of so he let me investigate as I am a radio ham i first checked his SWR (standing wave ratio ) and it was way out so he opend the boot where his coax came through and it was in a coil he said there was too much so he just coiled it BIG mistake you should either spread it out or cut it as in a coil it is just a inducter. I cut it for him and re soldered it and bingo never has he set my alarm off again he did stop one day and say his reception was a lot better and asked if he could bring his friend around

lol teddy becareful he will have them lineing up down the st to have there cars done lol
