i took the amp out my boot and when putting it back put positive to the negative and negative to positive and now the lower tailgate button wont work neither will remote central locking and also tried driving the car would not go over 25mphand now will not even start only had the car a week and recently had to fork out for 2 new air struts on the front any help would be greatly appreciated thanks .. falling out of love with the car very fast .

by the way, you cant fall out of love with the car

it wasn't the cars fault now was it ? lol

chances are... you may have fried a couple.. (or more) ECU's. the body control seems to be having problems by the description you have given.. or it could just be a blown fuse(s)

the car only going 25mph could be a fail safe of some sort

check the power to the rear fuse box the remote central locking reciever is fed from a fuse in there(fuse14) as are the rear tailgate lock electrics ,

it was the amp power wires i put the power wire in the earth terminal and the earth wire in the power and it just sparked and everything went bad to worse thats wen the tailgate wudnt open and noticed all the other faults came ..

i have checked every fuse i can find and all are fine even checked the fuses in the engine bay underneath the black casing on the left side ..

thought the amps fed by a multi plug ? so you can get them wrong ?

its an aftermarket system that was put in .there is a power cap in there as well and power is no longer getting to that now either it seems like there is a fuse some whare that has blown that also controls the other faults that have started but no idea why the car will not start now unless its the fuel pump or something the ran like a dream until this happened ..

Chances are you've toasted the amp. Tear it out and check all of your fuses. 25mph suggests it has gone into limp home mode, so the ECU should at least still be good. The tailgate not opening would suggest power to it has been lost. So check that fuse. Depending how bad of a short you had, you might need to get it on a diagnostic and check any fault codes.

Aftermarket installs leach power from all over. Most directly from the battery and should be their own independent loop, so should've had it's own fuse, but what should happen and what did happen is anyone's guess.

also connecting the live to the earth could possibly stick 12v up the arse of all sorts of ecu's etc. when you checked the fuses was it visual or with a meter as its best to check with a meter .

very true.

although i thought most stuff would work backwards anyway ?

guess less damage would have been done if he had got the battery terminals wrong.. at least the whole system would be round the wrong way probably causing less issues then half positive and half negative

av cracked it all the faults i have is traced to the rear fuse box i have tested the power to the fuses and there is none at all that would explain why the fuel pump isnt working hence car wont start and central locking and rear tailgate not working as well all i need to do is find out what sends power to that fuse box and that should sort it thanks for the clues does anyone know where to look.

I would of thought that connecting the amp up backwards would of blown the amp and not caused to much of an issue to the rest, other than maybe POP a fuse, I guess with a custom install though, you never know what's connected where

wouldnt of been an issue if the amp was fed directly off the battery and not from the rear fusebox
