Stick it on autotrader. If it has reasonably chunky tyres.....sell it as prepped for winter. Towbar? If it has someone with a donkey will take it. Nows the time to sell it on quick. Snow is coming people get scared of white stuff

Now then, Freakylander.

Welcome to the forum.

I spent my first day driving a 1.8 Freelander today, after my mate borrowed my Disco.

It isn't half bad.

But in the three weeks he has had it he has broken a prop shaft, just by scooting round the fields. He has also been warned by one of our mechanic mates about the cylinder head. I think 80,000 miles was mentioned (and it's currently reading 76,000), so I imagine it will be going soon.

I would get rid, inventing some story about you not liking the ride height, or some such thing.

Cheers.

Hi Damoyorki,

You know what....I don't even have to invent anything!....I found out today that it actually cannot pull a double horse trailer with horses in it, so is no good. I have had Defender and Discos in past and never gave a thought that a 2.5 engine couldn't do it? :( I really should have done some research first.

All down to the safe towing weight etc. but I am assured that it will not tow the weight I need it to so.......yes.....will have to go.

BUT I have to say (and you can all shoot me down in flames if you want...lol! ) I have driven it around today and it is a really lovely car to drive....powerful, comfy, smooth and handles lovely. No knocking, jingling, squeaking, jingling, creaking etc and EVERYTHING but EVERYTHING works on it like a dream! How nice to have my bottom warmed by seats! :D

Problem is when engine under strain often.

Why it gets called hairdressers car. Its a towny motor not country workhorse

Its not really the gaskets....

Somewhere between 60 and 80k miles (US) the cylinder liners drop enough to start taking in coolant. It'll run ok but you'll start to lose just a bit. If you let it go dry you'll overheat it, and then its toast.

No new motors available (or worth it), and rebuilds don't address the real problem. Best recomendation I've heard is to just run it on water and "Bars Leaks" until it finally blows. Oh, the coolant also winds up in the oil, so you'll have to change that pretty often also.

Fortunately, I had a warranty and LR foooted the bill for TWO new motors. The good news is that it's probably safe to leave the cambelt change undone!

how

Oh bloody hell and crap!

Why do they go through cylinder head gaskets all the time? There must be a feasible explanation?

I'm not a mechanic or anything like that, but there has to be a SIMPLE explanation guys (and gals if there are any out there who can answer this question too!)

Thanks :=-)))

It's coz they're crap.............and:welcome2: ;)
