Navy Dippypud Sgt Major was to relate to the newbie a few days ago who was in the Air Force. A Sgt Major is top enlisted pay grade E-9.

In the Navy that would be a Master chief Petty Officer E-9

I do agree with Fur Trapper about slapping down someone who comes in too strong (talk about friendly fire!) but I think I agree with WSR in his interpretation. This man introduced himself in what he believed was a correct manner that would also give context to his interest but then immediately said to call him JJ and finally went on to express an interest in LRs and to compliment the ones he's seen British forces using in action on the front line. And I don't think he's shat himself or is cowering somewhere, I reckon he tested the water, decided this place is not for him and he's moved on.

But why did he have to tell us all in his first post that he was a high rank in the yank forces, means bugger all to me other that he was on an ego trip. (All said in the nicest tone with no hint of bitterness FT):hippie:

Dunno, maybe force of habit. I've a cousin in the navy, comes home every few months and unintentionally uses jargon and it ****es his wife off. Like calling her lovely dining room the Mess or something. Lol. Anyway a major is mid-management at best mate, not a board member so its hardly showing off. But as I said, I totally get where Fur Trapper was coming from. I've been in the States and seen a few military types really try to swing their dicks around and expect preferential treatment from the rest of the population. Partly to do with what a big fuss is made over them these days I think. Or maybe its the public trying to compensate for how soldiers coming back from Vietnam 40 years ago were treated. Back then people threw stuff at them, called them baby-murderers and so on. This time its all heros' welcomes all around. Bound to go to their heads.

Well, for my second post, it's pretty easy to see why people go looking for info elsewhere.

You bunch of hopeless bozos don't even know what a "yankee" is. To call every US Citizen a Yank is absolutly NO different from us calling every Brit a Geordie. or every Scot and Mick an Englishman.

Don't take them too seriously, Major. They're all miffed because the only people left on earth who haven't kicked their asses are probably the Ethiopians. And that's just because they have better things to do.
