Not sure you started the thread with you were changing the gasket how long you had it had you been driving it was it running hot ? As this is what probably done the gasket in, if its running hot now its the cooling system you won't go wrong fitting those parts , if rad looks old old ect pump and stat surprised you haven't changed that anyway seeing as you had the head off doh;)

I've changed all front end
brand new rad , thermostat , genuine
pressure cap , pump
done all that befor doing the head
get about six mile then overheats

Sure you haven't got air in it , I always fill the rad as much as I can from the rad i take off the left hand hose and fill in there , once full I do expansion tank untill it is right , always check bleed hose for block from rad to expansion tank once warm and expansion tank level stays stable I pull the bleed pipe from the rad end and check its spurting out water then I know I have no air in the rad.

I change mine yearly one year I changed the top hose that goes into the head I had problems bleeding kept getting hot , I rechecked every thing rad was not full topped it up and hey presto ;) good luck

Bleeding the Coolant system on the Diesel is a pig of job to do properly....musy ensure you follow RAVE to the Letter, and similar to D300TD1 I always Fill the RAD Via the top hose first!

According to BMW/LR the head cannot be skimmed. It's weak around the valves in any case so skimming it will just weaken it further.
Cracked heads often do not show on test unless the head is heated.

Do you think its slipping then ?? Would of thought your alternator light would light up if it was

I broke it putting a bar in like rave told me to tension it
bottom cast broke
well ****ed off
another £30
When you put the bar in from the left looking at the engine did you pull it upwards to release a lot push downwards and brake it :)

Actuly hold that thought I can't remember now without looking at the Pulley
