Not changing the springs. They are HD springs and are fine. Shocks were £29 plus VAT. Picked them up from a local parts place which was pretty handy. Its only about 3 miles from me so no waiting or paying for postage. I did remove the springs and give the bases a good wire brush then fit new nuts and bolts and spring retainers.
 
I got a 90 project going at the moment mate and this looks like the direction im going in too. Although i can only hope it turns out as well as yours has. Mine needs shed loads of work on the chassis to get it nice again. Love some of the ideas for cheap very useful upgrades.... Just one thing..... Fosters???? haha
 
Looks good mate! Spent yesterday replacing the shock on my wifes Saab- took me damn near 5 hours so i know how you feel! Can i ask what parts place are you using at the moment?

@ Steve - I picked up the bits from a place called AJD landrovers in Broxborne. They seemed to have a good selection of parts in stock. And 5 hours on one shock? Sounds like it was even worse than my job!

Exmoor trim loc box, rear load space rubber mat and acoustic moulded matting system for the front now ordered. Looking fwd to fitting them then painting/tidying up the inside a bit more now. I think thats about it then for this project. Thinking about some carbon fibre or chequer plate door cards but thats probably a summer project. Not sure when the exmoor goodies are going to show up but ill post some piccies when fitted :cool2:
 
:) not sure about too much money. There's people that spend more is cigarettes and booze than I do on my land rover. I want to keep this thing for years so I consider it an investment.
 
Well my locbox, complete front matting system and rear mat was delivered yesterday. All looks ok initially. Locbox looks sweet. Exmoor trim parts look great so far, shame about the communication from craddocks but thats another story :mad:

Going to have a go at fitting the front matting system this weekend as long as its not raining. Doesn't look like its going to be too hard although they recommend having 2 people to fit it.
 
Well after nearly 6 hours :eek: I've fitted the exmoor trim moulded mat system, loc box cubby box, re-mounted the fire extinguishers in new places and fitted the rear mat. The matting took a lot more trimming to the seat base part than I thought it would but I'm pretty happy with the result. As for noise reduction.... pretty impressive. 70mph now with the sound proofing and 1.2 transfer box is very comfortable (for a defender :) )
I sprayed a some wayxoyl under the matting in the front on the lower bulkhead before I fitted the mat.

I think this 110 is now almost complete. Only thing left to improve is a better paint job inside and out. Will spend a lot longer rubbing down and spray it next time. That can wait until the summer I think.

I have the same matting and cubby box.

The matting makes a big difference to noise levels. I didnt think it made much difference but i took it out for a day to pressure wash it and dry it in the sun and used the landy to pop to shops without matting and it was massively noiser!

Is that Exmoor matting? I'm looking at some for mine as the original's pretty knackered. Spent yesterday fitting new seats, which i'm very happy with, but they look out of place as the floor's so scabby! ;)

Yeah Steve they are exmoor. Feel free to pop over some time if you wanted to check it out closer. Drove past you a couple of times yesterday when you was working on yours. What seats are you fitting?

I got a couple of 1/2 leather seats out of a Rover 600. They're a lot thicker than the originals, but perfect for me. The height adjustment also means i can get to the battery without having to drill a hole in the seatbox. Fitting them was dead easy, but one of the spot welded plates attached to the round nut thing under the drivers seat (that the rear bolt threads into) had failed so took me about 3hours to get the drivers seat out. Needless to say i'll be ordering a cordless grinder soon enough.

Can you just turn up without advance notice and tell them what you're looking for and they will point you towards a row of trucks and you just pick one? I'm after a 110 hard top for hopefully no more than 3.5k. How many do they have roughly?

Does the quality of them vary a lot or are they all much the same?

Well its almost a year since I picked up the 110 and I took it for its first MoT today. Passed with no advisories and the MoT guy asked me if it was a recent new build because the chassis still looks like new :)

Well today I thought I would try the topless look. Took me about 10 mins to take out the hazmat kit and off with the canvas roof. Ill time myself putting it back on tonight. Its a first for me -

Took me 14 mins to get it all back on (without the hazmat kit but that can stay off until the weather gets colder). Next time I reckon I could get it on in 10 mins.
