As long as the money saved on running black covers the cost of fixing your engine, you're onto a winner.

i was talking to a fella tonight about black diesel and he reckons if you cut it with paraffin it cleans the crap out of the engine never tried it myself but he swears by it

my mix that I have been using and have used in the past is

Waste oil 80 litre
petrol 20 litre
paraffin 180ml
acetone 180ml

that gives me around a weeks worth of fuel

heat the oil up to remove as much water then add in petrol, acetone and paraffin. mix well and filter down to 0.5 micron then fill up your car :)

Edited for accuracy:rolleyes:

Acetone going through pump seals?
I know its a small amount,I work with grp and we use a hell of a lot of acetone and its not very kind to seals,so in the long run is that not also going to kill pump johnny?
Mines on 178k at the mo and I had a panic as I put 77p worth of petrol in my Dse by mistake and watered it down with £60 worth of diesel and crossed my fingers it would be ok,I asked my mechanic if it would be ok and he said it would prob do it some good?

well considering everyone told me it would die instantly I did better than expected and had a good run on the cheap stuff.

I'm not bothered, because it can always be repaired or replaced and at least I can say I tried :D

when I bought the car I was running on SVO 80 litre mixed with 20 litre of Petrol, ran fine on this, just a little sluggish top end and more so in winter. However I did manage to drive to France and back on SVO in summer time, even carrying spare cooking oil oil in the boot no one at customs battered an eye lid at me carrying 80 litres of fat in the boot

running diesel mixed with petrol is fine for most cars and was even recommended in winter by some car manufactures, the army have been doing it for years. rule is start low, around 5% and increase up to a maximum of 20%

Petrol was used in diesel as an anti waxing agent in winter to prevent freezing. Not for any other reason. By the way 80 litres of cooking oil with 20 litres of petrol added is not 20% petrol. It is 25%.

true and 99% of diesel we buy now has an anti waxing agent in it during the winter months so it's no longer advised to use petrol

Looks to me like you have knackered your engine with the petrol and Acetone. If those glow plugs were spark plugs, you would be looking at a seriously weak and high temperature mixture.

true :) but at least it was fun trying

I managed half a leak down test last night before the gauge broke

so I know the first 3 cylinders hold pressure above 85% once the company sorts out a replacement gauge I'll test the other 3 pots before removing the head to see what they can hold

Diesel equivalent of pre-ignition? Was the ambitious 25% petrol mix causing the burn rate to be too fast (violent) which took out the glow plugs? If so your pistons and valves will probably have a few battle scars!

Bloody near 2 stroke mix bet some old TVO units would run off that mix. No wonder he has problems.

did you pay the tax on the waste oil :);)

Think he may have meant fuel duty. That is payable on ANY Dino oil used as fuel. Waste oil or not.

fuel duty as they like to call it tax is such a nasty word :violent: last time I looked it was about 80p a litre and it must be paid:mad: unlike veggie oil where you get a free allowance for a set amount the local vosa checkpoint round the corner from me impound vehicles regular for the non payment of duty as they cannot tell without chemical analysis if it contains red diesel or heating oil
