Have just got a 97 disco with 100 thou on the clock one niggling fault is the gearchange, the synchros are good but the gearshift is only sprung to the left way making the middle gates 4th 3rd hard to locate especially coming back down the box.Of course I looked in the Haynes to find no info on the box itself. Can anyone shed light on the problem.

theres a pair of springs on top of the gearbox, accessed from inside (under both gaiters), i think they are bolt down items on 300TDi, either they will need realigning or replacing, later ones I think are riveted as they are on TD5's

Thanks I supect the centre console will need to come out first
Very happy its not a box out job I will change the lever gaiters while I'm at it
Are there any setting I need to know about?

Somewhere on here someone posted a website with the genuine workshop manuals on. The instructions for adjusting the springs is in them (it's in the 90 manual anyway). I'll try and find it.

thanks for the link I will try it again later. The sloppy gears are now the least of my problems as I managed to almost blow up thr engine on the M6
see chuffing disco for details.
