Not sure what I've done to deserve the ire of the LR gods.. Just realised I bought my disco exactly 13 years ago, must have something to do with it!?.. She's been running lovely for ages, then in the last couple of weeks, lifter got frozen in front window and fell to pieces, oil leak I just can't diagnose and a tapping from the rear wheel I can't work out either.. I have other threads for all of that, but she's just broken down now!
Coughed and spluttered and died, could not hear fuel pump running, swapped relevant fuse and relay.. No joy. Question is, if I get to the connections on top of the pump, do I just connect 12v to it and see if it is dead, guess if it runs, problem must be between pump and ecu? Also my Hawkeye shows no dtcs? Any thoughts appreciated!

pull the red plug off the ecu n see if its got oil in it.

Hi. The fuel supply system is not covered by diagnostics, first of all remove the relay and bridge the contact's cavities(perpendiculars 30 -87) with a wire, if it runs this way the problem is between the ECU and fusebox or a management issue, relay R9 is involved as well and fuse F13 through the inertia switch, if you give direct feed to the pump(white/purple - blak wires) and it runs but not with relay bridged it's a wiring issue between these or in the fusebox.... though the pump in these cases is the most common failure

Brilliant Sierra, thanks very much for the direction, it's being towed back home on the weekend so I'll have a proper look, but great shout to divide the problem into 3 possible sections. I can see the pumps aren't too expensive or too difficult to fit.. So am hoping that will be it! as you say, if I get 12v at the pump with ignition, but pump not running, that'll be the problem.. Otherwise I'll check as you've instructed. Thanks.. Also thanks kevstar, I'll peek at the ecu plug too!

I had similar, going up the motorway, it turned out to be the fuel pump intake was blocked so we cleaned it and a new fuel filter all good after that

As usual, looks like the knowledgeable chaps on this forum have nailed it straight away! 12v at the pump but no action whatsoever.. New pump ordered.
Thanks all.. But especially Sierra, you're always spot on with your suggestions, cheers!
