Hi I have been given 50+L of fuel free from a pal who accidentally filled his petrol car with diesel. He had about 10L of petrol in it so I was wandering if it would be ok to use it in my 200tdi adding more diesel weekly? . Any help would.be great. Thank you

If you don't wanna use it, I will .. ;)

Its got about 20L of bio diesel in now so I think I will try it. Are there any symptoms I should look out for? Cheers

I'd put maybe 10l in the tank and add 20l diesel so it's diluted even more, it should be fine at that .. indeed it's probably fine as is, but better careful than broke.

The trouble with petrol is that it burns hotter than diesel and too much can cause premature detonation and will push the EGT up quite a lot, so diluting it even more is a safety measure. Apart from that I'd guess it's good to go, as they say .. :)

Hi, I have just added about 20L before reading your reply. I drove it about 5 miles and it seemed fine if anything a little peakier. I will mix the rest with the bio I already have so should have about 150L. I have just found new cooking oil for sale locally for 14.99 for 25L so I may try adding that to make my own blend lol. Anything to save me paying £1.40 a litre is good.

Yeah, I've been using veg oil at about 75p per litre, mostly mix 20l with 20l derv .. I stopped messing with mixing out of the vehicle, just dump 'em in when i get them!

PS, where's locally? I wouldn't mind £15 for 25l .. I get mine at £15 for 20l!!!!

Don't forget to keep records of how much veg/bio you put in, if you get pulled or a visit you will have to provide your records to show you are not over your 2500L allowance.

I didn't know about that 2500l allowance - I thought it was just straight illegal to put veg oil in your tank unless you accounted to HMRC for the duty. Very interesting! I don't use anything like 2500l of fuel in a normal year... Big difference between £0.75 per litre and £1.35 per litre. I can feel a trip to Asda coming on...

(This link Veg Oil Motoring, diesel engine conversions to run on vegetable oil Legality and Fuel is helpful if anyone else is interested.)

you need to read notice 179E on the HMRC web site, gives all the details.

basically total up at the end of each month for previous 12 months, total must not be over 2500L, keep records of date and qty used of biofuels (biodiesel, svo, wvo).

D2 will run fine on biodiesel, not sure about veg oil.
