No remote sorry I did look unless it pops up somewhere unexpected.
I pushed the flame button this morning and heard a lot of clicking from drivers side rear door I am assuming this is some sort of fuel pump?
did not clear the windscreen or heat the inside of the car is there something I am missing to do?
Have heated windscreen that works!! woo hoo had one before in a mondeo but because of a chip only half worked

The Freelander fbh is a 'standard' Webasto Thermo Top as fitted in big wheeler Volvos and other HGVs as a night heater.

If you install the optional 1530 digital timer it can be programmed to turn on in the morning and switch on the heater fan so not only heating the engine coolant, but heating the cabin interior as well, just like an HGV.

You should be able to find a new 12v timer for under £50 on eBay (watch the voltage as mostly they are for 24v for HGVs) and the wiring diagram and fitting instructions are in the free owner's section of Topix.

Thoroughly recommended - no more scraping, no more cold cabin on winter mornings.

It is indeed the rest and be thankful in Scotland. Superb road upto it with very good overtaking areas.
I've a few more pictures of that day. I drove the only diesel and the only 4x4. Which was kindly stuck in group 1, beside the gt2 in picture and a F430. There was a slower group as well....

Have to say it is good fun driving fast in the freeby as people simply don't expect it to shift or corner well but remapped and with decent tyres and brakes. You can throw them around and they do handle very well once you get used to the roll and learn to feel for what grip it has and apply power or turn in to match.
 
Fantastic picture my son in law is a scot so will ask him where to go I am irish and we have some simular places there but I live in england heven knows why but we can always travel

Back in the day - when Health & Safety was only a glint in the eye of the evil black-hearted Spoilsports we used do have Hill-Climbs there.

Timed runs up the hairpin twisties on the old road, with hundreds of spectators parked along the side of the new road.

It's still possible to drive the old road, but you need to open(and close) the gates at top and bottom. It has 'Gated Road' status now.

Its primary function is to provide additional heat and circulate it through the cabin heater matrix not to heat the engine as some people think. The addition of the remote control and control panel conversion to a parking heater takes it to another level allowing cabin preheat.

Sounds like good fun, there were 10 porsches that day, a few audi's, jags, bmws, lotus's, ferrari's, a lambo and a few tvr's. And my freeby....

The freeby is rather infamous in the group for 2 reasons, 1 for being a tow car to a lambo. (long story, but from it i gain an italian lawyer as a good friend which is always a good thing to have when your 24..) and for being a bucket when it comes to being reliable... :( lol.

Ive done the "dukes pass" in the freeby with a 450bhp 993 shape 911 turbo following behind me.. Thats an interesting road if you get a clear run at it, :D

Oooooh, i do like the look of that road. Shall investigate it one day..

Unfortunately there is no off road fun really for the freeby, No green lanes in scotland and the freeby lacks a sump guard for the job and it doesnt run on off road tyres. Just michelin synchrone's although they have plenty of tread in them as they are only 18k old.

Hope to use it off road again some day but that means going to pay and use sites and they can be hit/miss with other users.
 
Sorry to go on about this but does anyone know where the sensor is located behind the bumper & would I be able to see it through one of the mesh grills .....cos I can't see anything that looks like a sensor.
As I said on a previous post I have removed the fuse but it still didn't work at about 0 degrees.
Hate things not working if I've got it!! :confused:
 
It can just be seen here mounted on a bracket under the inner bumper.... the plug is not visible in the pic. To test i just put a paperclip into the the plug contacts and provided the engine temp is also cold enough it should start the FBH.

switching to this thead as i find it very very interesting and useful.

Someone mentioned that not every TD4 has this fuel burning heater under the front bumper. Is it true and why? I thought that every Freelander TD4 2000 onwards has got one because of the warm up the engine..I saw yesterday one Freely without FBH (there was a hole in the bumper only for the tube) and thought it is something wrong with the car..Someone took it off??

How do engines without it reach the working temperature in the cold days?

I see that some folk even want to disable it. :eek:
 
my engine warms up quite quickly about 2 and a half miles and it upto tempature
with the fbh it was the same I pulled the plug as I got fed up with it running on and on and people telling me my car was on fire
 
My takes at least 10 minutes on a cold day before any sort of heat comes through to the cabin. I have to let her run a couple of minutes before I drive it otherwise she really struggles up a local hill. When warm she flys up it, so I would like the fbh to work

That's my experience too, Phil.

teddywood you must just be lucky as I don't think your motor is typical.

I use the timer nearly every day at this time of year so the engine and cabin are warm before I get out the house in the morning, and again when I leave work.

I wouldn't be without it for the world. :D

The FBH is not fitted to heat the engine, it's to heat and circulate water to the heater matrix. It's an auxiliary heat source for the cabin heater because of a difference between coolant temperature at the engine and the heater matrix in cold weather.

If the engine takes an excessively long time to get to normal temp on the gauge then suspect the thermostat needs changing.
